Instinct solar drive error

When Instinct solar is connected to Windows 10 PC via usb cable it says there is a “drive error”.  How do you fix this?

I have checked the cable ports and cable and all is visibly good.

Trying to take a FIT file from watch results in “file unreadable” error and when I check the watch drive properties on the PC file system it says that it needs repairing.

During the process all activities have been deleted from watch.

  • You'd get more help if provided more details. What's the OS - Windows, MacOS, Linix? Have you tried connecting to other USB ports on that PC, or even connecting to other PCs? Any dirt/grease accumulated in watch charging port or on the cable's heads?

  • Sounds like a filesystem corruption of data partition. You can scan the drive for errors when watch is connected to PC, there is support article about that. If it does not help then the only option is to do factory reset.

  • I have erased and reformatted the Garmin drive as suggested by the Support team.  Let’s see how it goes from here!  They have provisionally preordered a replacement watch if this doesn’t work so hopefully all will be well! :-)

  • This post is after the fact of the issue and it is good to hear Outdoor Product Support is replacing your Instinct Solar for you.

For all Instinct Solar owners and all Outdoor watch owners that might see this thread later, please do not format your Garmin watch. It will not fully regenerate everything needed to work properly. This holds true for all of our Outdoor watches.

If you ever have a serious issue that cannot be resolved, please be sure to reach out your Outdoor Product Support in your region. If Product Support has you do something that severe, then we have you covered doing it. If you choose to do it without reaching out to us, you voided your warranty in the process. Please always reach out to us. We are happy to help.
