Solar Instict Surf sudden shut down after being exposed for 40 min to high intensity sunlight. Francisco Costa Rica

Hi Garmin Team,
I have a Solar Instict Surf that has worked perfectly until yesterday and this morning. I left my Solar Instict out in the sunlight for about 40 mins when I came back to pick it up it was quite warm and turned off. I left it cool down and turn it back on, no problem until this morning when I was running and in the middle of my run it shut down again. I got home plug it to the charger and let it fully charge. I haven't experienced the sudden shut down again yet but I am still curious.

I live in Costa Rica and sun intensity is quite high here.

  • I hope your Instinct Solar Surf will be okay. There are operating temperature thresholds for your watch and it likely became too hot and that is why it shut itself off to avoid damage. As long as it didn't continue to sit in intense sun after it shut off, it will most likely work again without further issues. It may have become damaged though and only time will tell.
