Battery usage with 12.2

Hello,

Is anyone else seeing weird battery usage lately?

With an hour of activity or so a day, it will use a little bit of the battery, a few %.

Then, overnight it will drop 15-20%.  I don't wear it for sleep tracking, nor do I use pulse ox.  I have not changed any settings.

It's gone from days and days of wearing and activity tracking to a few days at best.

Also, the altimeter is giving me really odd readings, but that's a known issue, and wearing it under sweaty sleeves while Nordic skiing will mess it right up (sadly).

  • I've not had any issues. My battery was excellent on 11.0 and is unchanged now on 12.20. My battery drops between 3%-5% per day.

I did have initial battery issues out of the box but I did a "master reset" and that resolved it.

  • I may have to try that master reset.  Yesterday, after charging the night before, I wore it for about 8 hours, in that time did about a 90 minute activity and this morning it was at 68%

  • Just wondering if anyone else sees uneven battery drain like this?  After the last charge I used it a for a few days, 1-2 hours of activity, and it drains maybe 10% per day.  Then, just sitting overnight or in a single day it uses 15-20% with no GPS or HR or anything being tracked or recorded.  Today, it went from 55% this morning to 29% by 3pm, just being worn as a watch.  Does that seem odd?

  • This is highly unusual. Did you do a master reset?

    I have the same problem.
Charged it last evening and over night it lost 15%, but with HR activated.

Did a master reset yesterday, but this didn't help.

  • Update

I did the master reset, then fully charged it overnight.

Day 1 100%>76%. 1 hr activity tracked.  Overnight it went from 76>62%

Day 2 62%>40%.  1 hr activity tracked.  Overnight it went from 40>24%

Day 3 24%>?  At this rate it will be 0% by the end of the day.

The only settings I changed were to change one field on the watch face, pair it with my inReach (which I then turned off), and turn on a few widgets.  I also created a custom activity profile.  Other than that, no other setting for power or sensors, or anything were changed.

This isn't the battery life I started with just a few months ago.  My old Forerunner 235 still does better than this new watch.

Garmin people, if you read this, what do you think?

I would not count on it much here. Rather contact the Support directy.

However, in your place, I'd do the Master Reset again, and would first observe the power drain without changing anything at all. If it drains the power considerbly faster than the specifications claim, then contact the retailer, or directly Garmin's Customer Support, and ask for a replacement.

And if the drain is all right with the default settings, start customizing your device one step at a time, observing when it sart to drain the power quicker.

  • That would be good to diagnose the issue.  But I'm not sure how turning on widgets that are already there use power?  Same with setting activity profiles as favorites.  It makes you choose them as part of the initial setup.  I will contact support directly too.
