How do I keep activities stored in Garmin Explore app when deleting on Instinct watch?

A bit at loss here. When I record an activity on the instinct it shows up in the primary collection (sync selection option), let's call it collection A. I figured that if I would take the activity out of that collection and add it to another collection, say collection B, it would also be automatically removed from the watch...

Not only does that not happen, but if I now manually delete the activity on the watch, it is also gone from the collection B in the app that is not supposed to sync with the watch in the first place...

What I want to achieve is a long term storage of all activities in the Garmin Explore App, and manual deletion (preferably in App) from activities on the watch memory to free up space for software updates and such...

Any input greatly appreciated.

  • Frankly told, I don't use Garmin Explore much, so do not know anything about it, but aren't the activities in Garmin Connect sufficient for what you need? Garmin Connect keeps activities indefinitely, regardless whether you keep them on the watch or not. Or do you need the old activities to use them for navigation? In that case, consider saving them as Courses.

  • Hi Trux, thanks for the swift reply. Indeed, converting the activities to tracks does the trick. This does require individual conversion however and apparently not all the information is converted/migrated. For example, there is no playback option on tracks.

I prefer explore over connect because it works offline and you can view multiple activities/tracks simultaneously in one map view (useful for comparing).

I had imagined being able to offload the activities onto a device with ample storage (smartphone) to have them removed from a device with limited storage (instinct at 16MB) would be one of the major features of explore...

  • As I wrote, I do not know much about Garmin Explore, and I suspect other users here probably mostly use Garmin Connect too, but there is a subforum specially for Garmin Explore Android or Garmin Explore iOS, so you'd get certainly better advised there.
