Strength workout weight off by 1/2 Lb.

When doing a strength activity from a custom workout where the weight is a fraction, such as 142.5 pounds, when doing the set, it rounds up to 143.0. I then need to edit the weight during the exercise or remember to adjust it later in Garmin Connect. It is a minor issue, just trying to eliminate a few button presses on the watch.

I opened a case with Garmin Support, but I've been going around in circles trying to explain what is happening. I've seen a few other posts that are at least a year-old mentioning this, such as by  - Issues and bugs with Strength Training - fēnix 7 series - Wearables - Garmin Forums

Bug 3: If I have a weight like 22,5 it gets rounded up to 23 if I skip the repcounter.

And by  - Strength Training: own training plans with pre-set 0.5 weights rounded up on "edit set" screen - Public Beta 23.8x - Fenix 6 Family - Public Beta Bug Reports - Garmin Forums

If you define an exercise with i.e. a weight of 7.5 kg and attempt to edit the set after completion, the weight is displayed rounded up to 8.0 kg.

And by  - 18.14 Firmware - Weight Lifting Bug - Enduro 2 - Wearables - Garmin Forums

The following weights are all reduced by 1/2 lb.: 5, 10, 20, 25, 35, 40, 55, 70, 75, 90, 95, 105, 110, 125, 140, 145, 160, 165, 175, 180, 195

Garmin suggested turning off Rep Counting, but that leaves me with no way to edit the set (neither reps nor weight) when doing the activity. "Edit last set" is not available. This becomes problematic when doing super sets.

Wondering if anyone else has reported this.

  • Garmin suggests not to use the buggy function. Easy fix. Joy

  • As it is now, I am so used to editing the weight on the fly due to this bug, that their workaround is not the best solution. If they would just state that they are aware of it and will be fixing it for the next update, that's good enough for me. They seem to think that this is just how it should be and that I'm doing something wrong.

  • Update September 16,2024:

This issue was resolved with the latest Public software update version 18.14. If you are experiencing this issue, and have not already, you can install this update using Garmin Express.

  • I think there's still an issue. I have attached an example of a strength workout; it's one round of one exercise. Note the entered weight for the exercise is a round number - 200.0 lbs.

In the Fenix 7 I have Rep Counting set to Workouts Only and Edit Weight set to On.

In the attached video, note that 200 lbs is entered, but:

    a. when I go to edit the reps, the weight is shown as 200.1 lbs

    b. then it appears I am editing the weight to 200.0 lbs

    c. the workout gets saved with a total volume of 1999 lbs on the watch and in the Connect App, but oddly as 2000 lbs in the web version of Connect.

    d. the software version on the watch is 19.34 and the Connect App is 5.7.1.2

NOTE - if I turn Edit Weight to Off, then the Total Volume is recorded as 2001 lbs. Clearly, 10x200 = 2000.

  • Update November 18, 2024:

This report has been reopened. Thank you for letting us know that this is still reoccurring. I will provide updates, as there are any changes or solutions.

  • Thanks Laurie. I think Support opened a case under my email address yesterday.

  • Just read through the thread you linked to. I can definitely confirm the testing you did with a range of weights. The problem is widespread but oddly some numbers are unaffected, as you point out. Our weight machine is in 10 lb increments and has three 2.5 lb add-ons, so I can only lift in multiples of 10, plus 0, 2.5, 5.0, or 7.5 lb. The results being recorded are strange indeed.

I would love to know what the problem is ultimately defined as. It seems as if it might be more than one issue - perhaps conversion factors compounded by rounding? Like you and many others, I have spent an inordinate amount of time correcting strength workouts. Even after editing many sessions, the total volume in Connect Mobile has been incorrect so many times I no longer trust it.

  • I've become very proficient at editing weights during a workout. It's become an automatic response immediately after ending a set. Smile

I've been working with product support and following their instructions. Updating to every new beta and production version.  I've tried, 18.14 (issue began), 18.16, 19.27, 19.30, 19.34, 19.38, and 21.18

This should impact similar firmware on other Garmin watches:

  • Hopefully Garmin can get this straightened out. I love the workouts I have defined in my Fenix - it's very motivating to use the watch in conjunction with a weight routine.

I understand why the rep counting is difficult for some exercises. I would really love to see an enhancement that allows rep counting to be recorded during an activity from the workout, not from any physical movement. I almost always complete what I have built in the workout - don't make me have to anything; just use the reps as scheduled.
