Fenix 7 battery management chip

Has Fenix 7 (or Fenix series) a battery management chip that prevents you actually charging the device above 80%(ish) and discharging it below 20%(ish)? There are voices telling the device shouldn't be charged above 80% or discharged below 20%; if this matter for battery life shouldn't be the watch designed so that to prevent this?

  • every 5-10days (may avarage is about 8days with my activities).

    that gives me 500*5=2500/365=6.85years

However, your calculation does not include chemical aging. You will have to charge your battery more often over time, as the capacity continues to decrease.

The available runtime between charge cycles therefore continues to decrease.

Thus your calculation is correct in theory. But not in practice.

  • an that's why i went with the lover number of days 5, rather than the higher (8day=11years, 10days=13.5years => b ythen it will probably be sci-fi movie type trackers :) )

also isn't the 500 cycles the cycles that would guarantee the batter performance to be still at full capacity?

  • also isn't the 500 cycles the cycles that would guarantee the batter performance to be still at full capacity?

    no.

    1) There is no guarantee here, because there are chemical processes that take place in a battery. Some factors, such as temperature, play a role here.

    2) The indication of the charge cycles contains an aging of about 20%. If the battery is designed for 500 charge cycles, it will still have about 80% after 500 cycles in normal use.
    So no full capacity.

A battery whose capacity has fallen below 80% is bad. That's why it's called lifespan.

  • Just so there is no misunderstanding here, I'm not saying that the battery of the fenix is designed for 500 charge cycles. That was just an example. It could also be less.

The smaller the battery, the fewer charging cycles are usually possible.

  • With the recent bug with battery drain which was supposed to fixed, Garmin shortened the life of the battery. I have Fenix 7X with enabled smart function should last 24 days, it lasted 16. So, the conclusion is yours. If you charge by 80% or not, the software does the other kill or extend of the battery life. I have mine watch since the start of the summer and is pretty new.
