Faster Battery Drain using v9.36

Hi, I've got the 9.36 update yesterday at 11AM on my Fenix 7S Solar Saphire and 24hs later the battery went down from 49% to ~29%. At the time I'm writing this post (4 hours since last measurement) I'm on 23% battery, so a 6% drain in 4 hours -no GPS activities, just basic watch- I'm using an standard Garmin face and didn't run any other app since the update yesterday.

I have the watch just a week from now and as soon I've got it it was updated to 9.33, and it lasted 6.5 days with a full batery load. Now with the current rate i guess it'll last no more than 5 days with full charge, so I guess some issue was now introduced with 9.36.

Any clues?? Tks in advance!

  • a couple of additional comments as I was looking at some other posts...  I'm not using Strava (nor have it installed either). I've just did a hard reset (long time press light button) right after my initial post and will see if this helps somehow

  • Reset and new fully charging is recommended from other users.

  • I have no issue with both 9.33 and 9.36. F7X SS.

  • Got 9.36 yesterday on Enduro 2

    after 12 hours, it takes 1 %

using watchface 40+ with pulse on display

    edit.

after 24 hours it is 3%

after 48 hours it is 5%

  • Thanks all for the feedback! here's a quick update.

I've finally done a full charge and a hard reset after this.

The battery consumption after 24hs was just about ~10% and ~18% after 36hs (with just 30' activity/GPS). I guess I'm back on the same rate as before the 9.36 update so I think it should be ok now.

Still a little bit disappointed as I think the battery is under-performing according to the published specs for the 7S (up to 11 days as smartwatch)

Any other 7S owner there to compare the battery performance?

  • I had a 45 minute gps activity last night and lost 4%. So that's 6% for an hour. Still seems a wee bit high. Never had a fast drain in everyday mode with 9.33, but only with activity.

  • Hey...    Month ago i bought 7x solar...with 9.33 installed...    after first week i didnt realise the drain... coz it was new watch, and trainings..and i was happy and everything..    but after a week..  i notice that "loud" drain.  My previous 6x ( not solar)  realy did the job ...21days after full charge..   and with trainings and gps.. and HSN watchface, all apps messages enabled.. it was 100% for a 18-19 days.

Ok, Strava live segments.. oky.. didnt turn off... was just waiting for 9.36 rollout..      Now.. i have 9.36....   Did reset, did fully charge,  did also factory reset,  disabled strava live segments, and the drain is still here!

So, i gues 9.36 didnt do any FIX..

I dont know if this Solar thing charges the battery or it just helps to "drain" less battery during activity,  but i tested it..  in 8h.. when i was at work, i left the watch in my car on steering wheel ( no connection with BT),  at the end of my work, i had 3% less battery,     my friend has the same watch, no problems with drain on 9.33 and 9.36,  even on a sunny day, hiking to mountains, with activity and gps ON,  gained a few % up...

Any one still have drain issues with new firmware?

    Regards, Simon

  • Many people have same issue. Garmin did not say when this will be fixed and how

  • hm...   Garmin did not say you say..     than i dont know how was this ment :    Fixed issue causing increased battery drain..

    Hello Fenix 7/Tactix 7 users,

We have started the rollout of software version 9.36, currently we are at 70% with this release and we will increase the % as time goes by.

    Change Log

Fixed issue causing increased battery drain when using large Strava segments.
Fixed issue that could cause inaccuracies in the reported primary benefit for Training Effect.
Fixed issue causing Golf to sometimes not advance to the next hole automatically.
Fixed issue where long activities were causing the watch to behave poorly.
Fixed potential inaccuracies in the Race Time Predictions.
Fixed potential issue with Daily Suggested Workout plan overview.

  • But it was not fixed. Some users who use Strava segments reported issue not fixed. Moreover, users who do not use Strava segments also have reported battery drain issues and Garmin did not mention those at all.
