Fenix 7 Base vs 955, are you kidding me?

Reducing the price is amazing, congrats to everyone that is able to score such a fantastic ecosystem and watch.

But now I feel duped buying the base Fenix 7.

The 955 is $200 less than the base Fenix 7.

The 955 basically has the same screen. [Not really a complaint I suppose, but I'm reaching for any sort of "upgrade" the $700 Fenix has over the $500 955)

The 955 has 2x as much memory, are you serious? The base Fenix 7 has 16gb and the 955 ($200 less!) has 32gb.

The 955 has multi-band the base Fenix 7 does not.

The memory and multi-band are the largest slaps in the face. The furthest stretch I can reach for is I paid $200 more for less memory in exchange for ~10 more hours of GPS time.

  • It is quite simple. When buyer pays high price for the product marketed and poditioned as premium line (as fenix 7 line is), that buyer feels misled when a couple months later another product with much lower price has better features.

If that happened with any other device (i.e. phone, computer, etc) the user reaction would be the same. Telling to dissatisfied user that he should have analyzed business strategy of Garmin for last 3 years (as some users here sugested) or that he should have paid more for solar sapphire which they did not want (to get features that are now in much cheaper watches) does not help at all, it only adds to user dissatisfaction and distrust to the brand.

  • I bought de base Fenix 7s, and I have no regrets. I like the stainless steel bezel and the small size (42 mm). No other Fenix/Forerunner model can offer that. I would have liked 32 GB memory and the dual frequency GPS. But there is no 7s stainless steel model that has that. I don't care about solar.

  • The funny thing is that if the FR955 was priced at $900, nobody in here would be mad at Garmin at all (well, people in the FR forums would be mad, just not in the Fenix forum).

But because they made the pricing of the 955 super competitive and an excellent value for people who don't need a Fenix, that's why people here are angry?

The anger seems a bit misplaced at Garmin just for releasing an excellent new product at a fantastic price.

I'm sorry if people who bought a base Fenix 7 feel cheated now, but you didn't feel cheated when you bought it - you knew exactly what you were buying and how much it cost, and you still bought it. It was never any secret that the 955 was also coming soon, we've known that for YEARS. And for at least the last year, we've had a pretty good idea of exactly what it would have. We knew it would have most or all of the Fenix 7 features, at a lower cost. The 955 really shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone. If anyone regrets buying a base Fenix 7 only now after the 955 came out, that's on them - I don't see where Garmin as at fault there.

Were you guys also outraged when the Fenix 6 came out at half the cost of the Marq that had just come out a few months earlier?

  • Funny thing is that more expensive and more premium watch has less features than cheaper watch and they are issued with only 4 and half months difference.  Rationalize it all you want, it is illogical and user disatisfaction is sound and argumented. I surely have never seen this situation before and I have bought a lot of different tech in my life.

  • Also the discussion would be maybe different if 255 did not have the multi band.

  • Also the discussion would be maybe different if 255 did not have the multi band.

Ok but, again, you knew the base Fenix 7 didn't have multiband when you bought it, and you didn't have a problem with that then, so why now?

  • If you read through the whole thread you will find all the arguments you look for (and they may not convince you of course, and that's perfectly  OK, but your question has been answered many times already)

, but your question has been answered many times already

It has been answered with this mythical timeline of release as the reason.  I'm sorry if this offends you or anyone else, but what difference does it make if it was a day, week or 4 1/2 months?  When you and no one else made the decision to buy your base Fenix 7 it was good enough for you then or you wouldn't have bought it.  Period.  End of story.  It does happen quite a bit with products regardless of what the stubborn claim never does.  No one was cheated by anyone.

  • Look... If you don't agree that's fine, you see it differently, but the whole point is... If someone feels cheated after buying a premium device there has been a mistake in strategy, and someone evidently dies, so .........

    Edit:

Someone DOES, of course, really hope nobody dies for this LOL,
