Recommended features - touch

Here a re a few ideas for Garmin to consider that would work with touch (and some I know from other watch platforms such as Wear OS):

-) double tap screen to zoom in temporarily for a few seconds (helpful if you have poor eyesight)

-) right and left swipe on the watchface screen to go to other screens: such as the activity screen

-) long press watchface screen to select watchface

feel free to add other features that are touch screen related.

  • Thats how T9 keyboards work.
Keep pressing the same key quickly to get to the 2 or 3 letter.

Ahh the old Nokia phone days.

A full qwerty keyboard would look nicer but may be a little small to type on, unless word prediction was well implemented.

  • The novelty of the touchscreen wore off after 2 seconds.  Actually, I turned it off right when I got the watch.  I tried it later just to see what it does and it didn't seem like it offered much interaction with anything.

Do you ever use maps? I don't really use touch and prefer buttons, but on the map screen touch UI is 100 times more usable than using buttons.

  • Novelty? It makes the watch so much more usable. It makes panning and zooming on the map so much easier, you can long press on data fields on stock watch faces as a shortcut to open the widget, it makes scrolling through glances and menus a breeze, you can look at and clear notifications much easier than just with buttons, and you can shortcut to the home watch face just by covering the face with your palm. The only thing you can't do solely with touch is open your activities, menus, and controls.

  • Another blast from the past. When the first iPhone came out, people were arguing how buttons are better...

  • I would like to configure swipe left or right. F9r example, I used to use swipe left to access alarm on VA4.

  • Maruzko - You are partly right, and have tought me something - Thanks!

The standard keyboard, when re-naming a course is the legacy "naming your course on watch using only the buttons"-option for which we get a circle-alphabet on the right-side edge that you would scroll through. Then when your letter was located the start button you could confirm it. But when using the touch interface the need to move the letters into a certain position to insert them has been eliminated but the "feature" to bring a newly inserted letter to the start-button area persists and was annoying.

What you then DID get me aware of, is that the T9 keyboard option is available in the bottom of the screen with an extra press on the touch-screen, and that I just could have changed the keyboard layout* instead of complaining :).

*Now I would like the option to set T9 as my standard keyboard, and an updated firmware that allows written replies to Texts or App-Messages.

Yep, I hope Garmin implements it.
It would make the watch even more smart, and less reason to pull out the phone.
