Feature Request: turn off touchscreen when water is detected

I have an E-Book reader that does this.

The watch could detect that there is a lot of irregular touch input in a really short amount of time (I guess it very easy to differentiate real touch input from a wet screen). Then the watch could display "No, I'm not having this. Switching touch off for X minutes".

Time could be up to the user to define. So far I always forgot to turn it off for the shower so most people would put in their general length of a shower session and it turns back on afterwards (if its still detecting water its turning off again of course).

Maybe in watersports I would use a shorter time, like if I've fallen in and am back out in like 30 seconds and the watch is dry again it could reactivate.

When worn in the rain would also be a scenario where it could switch off on its own.

  • Fantastic idea. I really like this.

  • Agreed I used mine for a road cycle in the rain and it saved my activity half way through my ride when I had it paused for a break

  • I'm not optimistic that the touchscreen has the physical ability to distinguish between water and skin. Neat idea in concept, but in practice I doubt it would work well, or maybe even at all.

  • The software does..if programmed that way..

  • This seems a bit pointless to me. Already you can disable the touchscreen per activity so just disable for activities involving water. If you wanted to you could clone the activity and have one for when it's raining, bike for example.

I wash mine with every shower and towel dry it after and so far it appears to have protection against all that touching and the screen does not change. Bit like accidental touch on a trackpad I'm guessing.

I have actually disabled the touch for all activities because I just don't need it and I def don't want accidental touches.

But hey I ain't against it just would be super low priority in my books.

  • You are lacking imagination a bit. Just because its a water activity, doesn't mean you're wet all the time. And and first I did not care about touch, but its nice and faster to use than pinching the buttons.

Cloned activities? For what, I can always manually turn it on and off by hotkey.

When I'm in the shower its jumping around all menu options like crazy and could eventually start editing the glances or the activity favorites list, setting alarms etc. Nothing damaging, but annoying.

Of course its not high priority, just convenience.

I don't think touch can do anything bad in activities, just scrolling pages and the map. You cant stop the activity by touch, so its not dangerous, like you wont loose data with accidental touches. Ok if you leave the activity to the watch face (by button press only) then touch could could accidentally open a 3rd party widget, that for certain would mess up you activity with current firmware..

  • What I've done is add the touchscreen toggle in the "controls" menu. when showering/bathing/cooling off in the pool, I just hold down the light button to take me to the control menu, tap the toggle touchscreen, and when I'm finished repeat process. Its similar to my apple watch process so it isn't too much of an inconvenience, but it would be nice to have a smart option

  • Hold down Start/Stop and Down (opposite diagonal pinch), no need to enter the control menu, there already is a hot key for it.

It even works fine during activities, although I'm always hesitant when it comes to the start/stop button there. But it works.

  • Awesome, thanks for that, Live and Learn :)

  • Please check if that is an option to be added. I think I will never learn to turn off my touchscreen before showering.
