This has been debated quite a bit - in forums for different models.
The device has a supported chip and Garmin have stated online, in an undated post - https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=gwhwlwegEx3iAUBY9UEbd9&searchType=noProduct - that they will be considering updating select devices and supporting it on various devices at a future date. Part of that is now apparent with the new plus models.
If they are ready to do it for any existing device or its in the near pipeline has yet to be answered. I think our only hope is to keep an eye on the beta notes to see if it appears.
