Watch faces can't be deleted or removed

First post to the forums and absolutely LOVE my new fenix 5x and am a VERY long time Garmin user (my first GPS unit was a GPS III- all the way to a Delorme Explorer I have as well).

I'm a bit concerned as I can't delete watch faces I've loaded from Connect IQ. I did some searching and found some oldish threads and have tried multiple times with Garmin Express on the desktop as well as via Garmin Connect on my phone. I've done multiple reboots on all devices (computer, phone, watch) and done the process all over with no results.

I know some bugs are running around here and there as the icons on my phone have rearranged a couple times each time I try to reboot or get things done, so something is wonky. I've given the devices extra time to "digest" what I've asked prior to ejecting the watch from the computer or making changes via the phone- all to no avail.

All the threads I found have ended with no real results. Has anyone ever been able to fix this?
