Cycling LTHR?

I've just received my Garmin Edge 1030, and was quite surprised to see it detects lactate threshold heart rate (LTHR) which is something I think Garmin's only previously detected for running. Any idea if cycling LTHR is detected on the f5? I'm guessing 'no' as I've never seen it happen, but I know even for running some people struggle to get it to detect anything.

Unfortunately, I only use my Edge for navigation and a back-up recording device, using my f5 to record all my rides so as to capture all my activities on a single device for consistent Training Status, so I'm not really going to be able to take advantage of LTHR detection on my Edge.
  • The F5 allows you to enter your LTHR manually, so you certainly can take advantage of the LTHR from your Edge.

To get a LTHR from running, it needs a fair bit of data at a range of different HR zones, best done with a steady build from zone 1 to zone 5 over about 30 minutes (some suggest you need to hit your MHR, although I'm not sure about this). While I have got a LTHR from my F5 while running (without actually specifically trying to), I haven't done a ride with a similar profile, so I can't tell you whether it will give you one for cycling.
  • Thanks - my problem is that once I've completed a ride and it's successfully synced from my fenix 5, I just discard the ride from my Edge (which I've paused, not even saved), so I've got a feeling that will mean even it has come up with an LTHR, it will just bin it along with the activity so I'll never even know. Unlike new HRmax and VO2max, I don't think you get an alert from the Edge if you've hit a new LTHR.

I know, niche case, but it's the best workflow I can come up with until Garmin start syncing Training Status etc across multiple devices.
