Pool Swim - how are you getting on?

I got my watch a few weeks ago and went for a swim. Firmware 3.10.
It was like magic! Each time I finished a length it had counted it and added distance. When I got home I could see stroke, SWOLF and distance.
Really good tracking and motivation.

Updated to 4.2
During the swim the distance looked really high. I then realised that it was adding distance as I watched during a rest. It jumped 210m in one go, then I saw the numbers start to count up like a clock!
When I hit save, the distance dropped dramatically and when I looked on Garmin connect the distance and lengths were close to what I did, with some errors.
This means tracking seems to work OK but in activity, display is out.

I then tested in the living room, doing 'fake' strokes!
15 seconds or so to count a length.
All was OK up to 15 lengths, then it shot up to 31. I hit stop and it reverted to 15 again.

Currently rolled back to 3.1 and the 'fake' activity seems to track OK. Not had a chance to check it in the pool yet.

I have filed a report to the Beta team, but just wondered if anyone else is getting good results? I have seen other reports of oddness with recording and am trying to work out what to do....from install firmware to send the watch back!

I hope it's working for you, but I feel like a guinea pig at the moment - here was me thinking the 5 plus would just enhance the 5 and all bugs were ironed out before launch.

Would love to hear other experiences.
  • I can confirm that interval pace and interval swolf are still not visible while swimming with this beta, unbelievable!

Oh, so glad I came across this. I thought I was the only one. I replaced Fenix 3 in April this year for Fenix 5 , noticed swim laps are so erratic. Went back to supplier thinking it was my watch , they took the watch back and refunded. So, then upgraded to to Fenix 5s plus a month ago and it is driving me insane. I truly thought I had another duff watch. I have odd distances showing and my laps are really erratic. The pace length on length is seesawing .. one crazy slow then one crazy fast.. to me the watch is not detecting my turns.. my turns are strong.. not feeble so I know this is not the issue. I have no idea how to roll back to 3.1 version , wouldn't know where to begin to do this but really would like to have watch data that is correct data .. I have had Garmin Swim watch for years and I am obsessive on my data lol.. so all these issues are driving me insane..????

We're in the same boat! I have to use my Garmin Swim because this 700€ watch is totally useless for swim! However, you can download old 3.1 dw from here: http://gawisp.com/perry/fenix_D2_tactix/ , just download 3.10.gcd file, put it in garmin folder and star tha "update", beware that you lost all your settings and data on the watch!
  • I think i have been swimming about 13km with the watch. Most of it freestyle with flip turns. I think it missed stroke type once during freestyle and a couple during backstroke (but my freestyle is much better). I’m very satisfied with the result.

As i said, you can't see interval pace and interval swolf while you are swimming, these 2 data fields are much important for me! You can't see them until you press lap (at the end of the interval).

Is it that simple to rollback ? I worry I will just bugger it up completely lol . And , have you done the rollback and its been successful? . I must admit the basic Garmin Swim was a fab watch for the money but I had two watches on the go , one for swim and one for running so took the plunge into the Fenix Range - I had no issues with Fenix 3 it was just too much of a monster watch for me - but as soon as I upgraded to Fenix 5s (small version ) its been nothing but glitch after glitch

It's quite simple, just put a file in a folder and disconnect the watch. I've done rollback many times also with other Fenix with no problems at all! I owned 920XT, Fenix 3, Epix, Fenix 5X and now Fenix 5 Plus; With time, Fenix line become every time buggier! Now for me the Fenix 5 Plus has exceeded the limit!

Thanks Renton.. I have tried the beta update for now.. it probably will do diddly or possibly make things worse. But someone pointed out there was a Fenix 5s + beta update added a few days back. Have you tried this? if it doesn't work I will revert back to the 3.1 until the day arrives on a fix. It seems Garmin make a rod for their own back .

As i said, also latest beta doesn't work as it should, interval swolf and interval pace don' work, they doesn't appear until you press lap or stop the activity. For me these two data fields are much important and i still use my old Garmin Swim for my pool training session.

ok, the new beta did nothing for my erratic data, just as it was yesterday , so I am going to roll back to the 3.10 .. I assume I don't need to drop this into any particular file in the Garmin folder, simply the Garmin folder ?
