Marq - 9.00 Public Release Candidate

Hello MARQ customers,

This software version is our next Public Release Candidate. This means that this software will become a public update, as long as we do not identify any critical bugs in this version. We would appreciate any feedback on v9.00.

The newest MARQ beta software is now available for your upcoming adventures! The beta below is not compatible with MARQ Aviator.

  • And again every connection to Garmin Express is downgrading Sensor Hub to 5.06.

    Can't you stop this?!   Nerd

  • Why are these betas never available for Garmin aviator?

  • Betas/untested/unproven software in aviation... Not a good combination (unless you’re Boeing of course)

  • Let's all hope no pilot ever really needs one of this watches for a successful touchdown ... Wink

  • It's easy to stop, don't use Garmin Express if you are on a beta version.

  • Lol well said. My new aviator just arrived(not an actual pilot), so I'll load up the beta.

  • Does anybody else feel GPS is getting worse with 4.31?!

For me it looks less accurate and the fix does take very long ...

  • There is satellite information, that is not even in an up to date CPE file, that is lost during the GPS software update process. It takes about 15 minutes of strong satellite fix for this information to be restored to the watch. This is why you’ll notice the time to get a fix takes longer immediately after a GPS update, and the tracks can be poorer than normal over the first few activities. One way to overcome the latter issue, is to do a 15-20 minute static activity (with GPS on) in a place with a clear view of the sky, immediately after the GPS software update (you just discard the activity at the end). People often refer to this as a ‘static GPS soak’ and has long been the case (ever since I had my first Fenix 2 as I recall. This is also worth doing if you’ve travelled a long way (over 200 miles), as the satellites visible, and therefore the data, will be different and need to be captured again.

Just so you know I’m not making this up, more detail is linked here and extracted below (I do wish Garmin would make this info in to a permanent support article on their website and include it in device manuals; it would avoid a lot of complaints I’m sure):

Applying GPS Firmware Updates - What You Need To Know

    Everyone,

Just a quick note regarding GPS updates and how to get the best results out of your device:

After applying GPS software updates, for best results please allow the device to track GPS signals continuously for 15 minutes. This one-time process will allow the device to re-accumulate satellite information lost in the update process.

  • That's known of course ... but doesn't help.

So again anyone the same or is it just me?!

  • I’m not having any issues with GPS, well apart from open water swimming. Satellite fix is fast and tracks as good as they have ever been.

Have you done as Crispin suggested and allowed a good GPS soak? Did you then test to see if there was a difference?
