  • Yes, I sent them an email September 23rd after I updated to version 18.10.  Yes, it's still broke but feel confident they will resolve the issue.  Even it it means going back to the 14.x version that according to this forum fixes the issue.  Sadly, I tried to upload it but never got it to actually change the version my watch was running (17.50).  Lets remember 18.10 is still in beta.

  • Yeah, they have pushed it out to everyone via automatic update.

  • I've been having GPS and altimeter problems for months. Some of you may have already read my comments.
Some time ago, my complaint was very big: I used to go cycling with my wife, I was instinct and she was a 245 forerunner.
In a 30 km tour, we had more than 1 km difference in distance, and 250 m of altitude gained! It was unacceptable.
Any cell phone works a thousand times better.

Last week I managed to return to:
    System Software: 14.40
    BLE/ANT/SNS: 1.50

Today I went out with my wife by bike, and after 60 km of travel, the differences have been minimal! or at least very acceptable!

    I share comparative image.
So the problem is not hardware but software.
I will never change firmware anymore.

  • Thanks for posting this. I think I need to look at rolling back to 14.40.

But how can we stop our Instinct watches from automatically updating to newer versions?  I never install updates. Garmin just loads them automatically without asking for my permission.

On all of the Android phones updates are downloaded automatically, but for them to be installed, I have to click my approval. Garmin doesn't do that. They don't tell you or warn you or ask your permission--they just put new software on without asking, often while we are sleeping.

  • Can you help with the rollback to 14.40?  I downloaded and unzipped the 14.40 files.  I plugged my watch into my PC.  I copied 1st the Garmen directory and then to the sub (based on the forun suggestions).  None of the combination I tried worked. I never got a message "do you want to activate the software" and my watch stayed on 17.5.

Meanwhile Garmen express downloaded 18.10 to my watch and when I unplugged it asked me if I wanted to upgrade.  I said yes and now I have 18.10 loaded on my watch.

18.10 did fix the mile discrepancy (Instinct always shows less miles than I actually ran.)

But the Altitude issue is still .... an issue.   Nothing changed.  An out and back run (up a hill and back down) using my very old Garmen Vivioactive HR was accurate.  The identical run using Instinct showed all downhill and the altitude was way off.

I even tested putting my watch in a stational position facing the unobstructed sky and started a run.  The altitude dropped several hundred feet without the watch moving.

  • Sorry I didn't see that.  Probably why my watch update to 18.10.
