Altimeter negative spiking after 17.50 upgrade, causing gigantic errors

After the latest 17.50 firmware upgrade, my Instinct seems to gone totally useless in regards to the altimetry.

Until now, it was more or less usable, as a lot of people had reported, it usually record more positive climb that should (maybe between 10% to 20% excess).

But now look at the altimetry record. Those negative continuous spiking caused that about a 890 meters total climb, the device recorded 6600 meters total climb !! That is so insanely wrong.

I have done this route several times, never happened before.

Device was calibrated prior to start, the start altimeter is right at about 1050 meters.

Does anybody know why the barometer has gone this wrong?

But

  • Not sure why you're not just rolling back to the last stable working version until you have a confirmed fix that you know works?

Under the circumstances, I'm reluctant to install some new beta version that may or may not fix it (and which apparently other users are saying does NOT fix it).

  • Further, it is very disappointing to see that this has been a KNOWN PROBLEM for THREE weeks and Garmin has been unable or unwilling to fix it by either rolling back its defective 17.50 to the last stable functioning firmware version or by coming out by a fix that Garmin has confirmed has worked. This is not to detract from individuals at Garmin whether on this forum or elsewhere that do care and are trying their best. Thank you for your efforts. But on the company and institutional level, I see this as a real failure.

We have two Instincts, one I bought a bit over a year ago, and one that I just bought. If a working fix (either going to the last working firmware version, or to a new version that works) is not released very soon, I will return the new one we bought a couple of weeks ago.

My instinct was working fine before the update.

  • Hi Garmin my instinct Worked also fine befor 17.50 since then my Barometer isnt working anymore and i have the permanantly the Number 83886 on it its a Shame that my Instincts Barometer broke thru this Update! hope it can be fixed!

  • hello the problem still exists even after having reported the manufacturing data with a forced reset
update 18.01 if it restores the factory data is not conclusive

  • Edit: This is in reference to the update system, that the Express app overrides the user setting to install updates manually.:

Yeah, I get that. BUT: it should read the preference setting first, respecting the user-defined setting. Just saying.

Is there another trouble-ticket interface for customers to report issues?

  • Good morning,

Any news in the release of new version to solve this annoying problem?

    Thanks

    Mirco

  • 18.01 does NOT fix the issue.
