But it does work on Instinct with the firmware 6.60, and it was working already with the beta 6.51. I just retested it, to be sure something did not happen to it, without me noticing it, but…
Even though there are automatic aspects to the altimeter within your altimeter settings to help it be accurate, it is still best practice to calibrate your altimeter manually before all outdoor activities…
It should be updating the elevation using the elevation map built into your watch.
That's correct, but only partially. The watch does not have worldwide cartographic data built-in. It needs to…
DEM works for me. I ask, if it is there automatically, how often does it connect during the activity, or does it have to be done manuály?

OK, I will try it.
Thank you
Hi,
I'm from Poland and use Instinct Solar with v.17 software. DEM does not work even with Garmin Connect working on the phone and communication phone -> instinct working fine and phone uses mobile data. In Garmin Explore I can see that the map HAS altitude information, so I guess DEM info IS available for my region? However, DEM calibration does not work at all ...
However, DEM calibration does not work at all ..
Do you get an error, when calibrating with DEM?
Yes, that "DEM is not available".
Anyway, I have restarted the watch and it worked.
However, as a software developer myself I think that there is still a bug somewhere. I do not know what resetting a watch really does, but this should be as simple for the watch as to request data from the phone. Why would resetting a watch matter, I have no idea, but I suspect that there is some general watch to phone connectivity bug here. And if it happened once, why would it not happen again some time ...
Why would resetting a watch matter,
Especially after a firmware upgrade, some internal structures may change, or some registers may get into an undefined state. As a software developer you surely can imagine it well. The restarting of the watch then forces the recreation of all data structures from the scratch in the desired format. Although there are mechanisms to avoid it happening, and some are certainly also used, due to the limited operating memory space, coding complicated data cleaning routines directly into the firmware may not be the best idea, especially when restarting the watch can fix it easily.
Yeah, but I can also imagine that a firmawe upgrade does a restart really (even if it's silent). Or at least this is the simplest way to do it. And communication with phone was working ok.
Ok, so DEM simply stopped working with no reason, works only immediately after a restart. Checked this in the same point, with the same connectivity etc. I will try few times a day and see when it stops working.
