My Instinct Solar keeps shutting off

Hi,

My instinct solar keeps shutting off when I start an activity. The watch is just over a year old and I got the product to track my activities it's become extremely frustrating. I've read multiple articles and post on the site and have hard reset but still having the same issue.

How do I fix this issue?

  • hello, havig same issue, I am currently living In Thailand, where can i send it for replacement ?

  • I am sorry you have the issue. You can reach out to Thailand Product Support to inquire further. Please note, they might not speak English and they will likely refer you to the country that you bought your watch in to exchange it.

  • I have found the solution while scraping though the entire known internet.

Turn off Vibrate. This fixes the issue.

    MENU button ( long press)

ABC button to SETTINGS  : GPS button to enter menu

ABC button to system : GPS button to enter menu

ABC button to SOUNDS : GPS button to enter menu

    TURN OFF VIBRATE

Also in the widgets TIME - ALARM  set  the VIBRATE  function off, use sound only.

  • I have vibrations set to off for a while now, and yet it still manages to crash randomly now and then.

Anyway, It's not really a "solution" when I keep limiting my watch to basic functionality so it works properly. Garmin needs to get their stuff together because at this point I don't think I'm ever going to buy another device from them ever again.

  • yet it still manages to crash randomly now and then

I am sorry you have the issue. Please reach out to Product Support in your region. Your watch will need to be exchanged.

  • And what if the watch is out of warranty?

  • It will need to be discussed with Product Support in your region. The warranty length can vary worldwide depending on the country so I cannot speak on behalf for what your Product Support will offer you when working with you.

  • too many watches suffer from the same problem... have you made any mistakes in the hardware or software? Never use a Garmin device again!

  • I finally go a response from Garmin India (which seems to have now been outsourced to a company called AMIT GPS & Navigation). I've been told to ship the watch to another city because they have only one service center in the entire country. They cannot give me any idea of what the next steps would be without having the watch in their possession.

While I understand the need to inspect the watch, I am not keen on shipping it across the country especially when the fault appears to be something that is widely acknowledged and rampant.

I really think Garmin needs to have uniform Global policies and not something dictated by region - it has quite a detrimental impact on customer trust to read about people in western countries like the US receiving no questions asked replacements while we have to jump through hoops and deal with an almost non-existant after-sales support network.

Since my watch is already 2+ years old I am opting to switch off the vibration function and use it till even that workaround no longer suffices. Needless to say, my next watch will probably not be a Garmin.

  • I wonder whether anyone experiencing the problems already tried downgrading to an older firmware version, to confirm or exclude that the crashing is caused by the latest firmware.
