My Instinct Solar keeps shutting off

Hi,

My instinct solar keeps shutting off when I start an activity. The watch is just over a year old and I got the product to track my activities it's become extremely frustrating. I've read multiple articles and post on the site and have hard reset but still having the same issue.

How do I fix this issue?

  • The issue requires your watch needing to be exchanged. I am sorry. There is no other option.

  • I am having the same problem, after one year of use of Garmin Instinct Solar

  • But the distributor in my region (Hong Kong) needs me to pay 1/3 the price of the new watch to repair it. Because the watch is out of 1 years warranty. So will you have anything that can help me to exchange a replacement?

    Thank you

  • I would love to be able to help further if that was possible. SE Asia falls completely under our Taiwan HQ that covers all of SE Asia. I personally cannot overwrite Hong Kong's decisions. I am sorry.

  • I see the complaints of Instinct shutting off at notifications, activity start, and at other events relatively frequently, and very often it is due to a defect vibrator drawing too much current, and triggering so the shutting off of the watch. I recommend going to the watch settings and completely disabling the vibrations:

    Menu » System » Sound & Vibe » Vibration » OFF

    Menu » System » Sound & Vibe » Key Vibe » OFF

  • Same issue here. Opened a chat session and they instantly asked me to pay $140 to replace it. What? Shouldn't we troubleshoot this some, possibly check logs on the device. I was very disappointed in that chat session and support interaction.

This did not happen a month or 2 ago so I believe it's a buggy firmware update.

Do they really expect us to believe all of our watches hardware just decided to die at the same time?

  • Thanks Trux, hope it works

It is not software which is why you must always reach out to Outdoor Product Support for your options. My sincere apologies your watch developed the issue over the years you have owned your watch. If you have any further questions, you are welcome to highlight my name and send me a Private Message.

  • I just received my replacement device from garmin after I sent in my original instinct Solar. This new one I received is also doing the same. It keeps shutting down when ever I finish an activity. What’s going on? Can someone please help me.
I am also afraid to updat to the latest firmware as that’s what started causing issues in my previous instinct Solar.

  • Please do not hesitate and contact Product Support again. You are given a new shorter warranty to always guarantee the recertified replacement watch has zero issues.
