Garmin Instinct Solar - Crashes During Swimming

Hi - I saw this in another thread but it has been locked and was from around ten months ago.

I've had my watch now for a month or two, and recently, during an open water swim, it crashed and rebooted multiple times, sometimes after I pressed the lap button. I was training in the Pool setting and it crashed again after I hit the lap button. So it happens consistently now in the open water swim and is starting to crash now in the poll setting. Is this something fixable or a bug with the watch itself? I am using it to train for a triathlon that is coming up and it messes with my ability to track workouts with my training program.

Please advise! Thanks.

  • If you have files err_log.txt, ERR_LOG.BAK, and/or Ram.txt in the folder //GARMIN/Debug on the watch, then they contain the crash log and memory dump from the time of the crash - sending the files to Garmin's Support will help them to localize and fix the issue.

A user in an older thread wrote that he noticed the crashes happen during swims, due to failed or interrupted BT connections - at one pool end, the watch was in the BT reach of the phone and started syncing, and then crashed as the watch was no more able to connect. I do not know whether it is the real and the only culprit, but it is worth of trying to disable the "Phone" option through the quick menu while swimming, or creating a Power Mode without the Phone connection and assigning it to the Swimming activity.
