All day active calories are incorrect

I've observed that active calories are culculated thery strange, low from my point of view.

For example, I had  a run with 1000 calories spent, which garmin showed me after the run. However, if I go to the all day calories, I see only 600 Active calories per day.

Looks very strange, also in compiaring with my previous Fenix 5. Which was showing compatibaly calories spent in Activity and All day.

I checked my profile (wheight, age ...) and it is OK and the same as it was on Fenix 5. This looks like a bug.

Any comments?

Thanks

  • Hello,

write when you know something about this problem.

Do you have a similar one? Dare to post the data? It can be also a different case.

  • I hope I understand the problem well, the screenshots are attached. My resting calories are 2255. Immediately after doing the second activity and calorie synchronization, there were about 260 for the activity, there is synchonization at 3:44 pm in the screenshot and there are more calories.

  • Yes, it is a similar case. The total Active Calories should be 351 kcal (135-26*2255/1440 + 321-41*2255/1440) for the two activities alone (plus something more for the non-logged activity during the day). I suggest reporting it to the Customer Support.

  • Yes, there is indeed a problem. The Active Calories part of the run activity are 352 kcal ( = 521-108*2255/1440 ) alone, so total daily Active Calories should be bigger than that.

In contrary, the passive part is all right - 1227/(13*60+2) = 2255/1440 = 1.57 kcal/min of RMR (1440 is the number of minutes in 24 hours, 24*60)

One possible reason could be that you inadvertenly have the watch associated with multiple accounts. That happens to people very frequently and almost always unnoticed, for example when they reinstall the app, or swap phones. If it is the case, then one part of the data may land in the wrong account, causing then similar mishaps. To exclude this possibility, follow the instructions from the support document Data is Missing from My Garmin Account After Syncing

  • During the activity, I had my watch paired with the phone and I saw how the active calories are being calculated, after finishing the activity and sending the data to the phone, the active calories from the activity suddenly disappeared. As if only active calories were left, but made beyond the recorded activity.

  • What you describe is coherent with the multiple GC accounts issue, I described in my previous post, so in your place I'd definitely try excluding that one first. Another possiblity is an issue with syncing the monitoring files - viewing the Device Sync Audits (accessible from GC Mobile Settings), should reveal some errors or warnings, in such case.

  • Sorry, How to contact with  support correctly ? I tried https://support.garmin.com/en-US/ql/?focus=topics to send email. No luck. Not able even send email from site.

BTW: as for the incorrect Calories calculation - I forgot to mention that you should verify the setting of the Activity Class in your Device Settings » User Settings. If it is set to zero, or undefined, it could lead to unexpected results.
