Wrist pain

I not only have had bad wrist pain, I have now got a very red and unsightly spot on my wrist bone. I have contacted Garmin twice now, on both occasions they have promised me a call back but have not called either time. I notice chats around this topic seem to get shut down, is this a regular occurence, I have a Fenix 5 plus

  • I switched HR off and afterwords it was OK. I AM 100 % sure, the pain was caused by wrist HR monitor.

Interesting claim. The HR sensor is optical, so it would mean that you suffer some kind of photodermatitis (allergy to light). Do you also have problems with the exposure to the Sun? If not, then perhpas cholinergic urticaria (allergy to heat) could be the reason. Though, I am doubtfull that the LEDs of the HR monitor cause much heat generation - that would result in a very rapid battery drain, so it is quite improbable. On the other hand one part of the spectrum the HRM uses is in IR, so perhaps there could be some relation. Maybe you should visit a specialist in allergies.

Hi, I never had any alergy, no problems with the sun, opposite as my hair were black (now they are gray), I always can stay on the sun for a long time and never got burned, no problem with the heat, no problem with IR Saula, which we have at home, no illnesses of any kind and I teke no medication. I have tried both hands, on the right hand I can have sensors on for one hour before starting to feel some pain, on the left hand only a couple of minutes. I have called Garmin (SLovenia Branch) and they were extremely kind, they have sent me chest HRM for free and now I am using it with no problem and it works perfectly.

I am sure that wrist HR sensors are causing the pain, but have no clue why.

  • Could you try attaching the watch to your ankle, to see whether you'll have the same type of reaction?
