Hello Garmin people, since yesterday I have really furstraring issue. I have Xiaomi mi A1 and yesterday I updated to 9.0 android pie. Since then the Bluetooth connection is really bad and keeps diaconecting all the time. In the past I had stable connection for 20 mettres and now it keeps disconnecting even if I move for 2 meters. Sometimes it reconnects but it is really unstable. I tried almost everything I know. Removed the device from Garmin Connect, unpaired device, cleared Bluetooth cache plus data, hard reset of the phone and still it keeps disconnecting which was not the case one day ago. If I pair my Bluetooth speaker I have absolutely no issue even if I go in the near room and I have walls and doors between me and the phone. I don't know how it is possible this in Android pie. Any ideas how I can bring back my stable Bluetooth connection ?
  • Hi all,

Here with Xiaomi A2 Lite and a Forerunner 735XT with the same issue... only after upgrade to Pie.

Done everything. Deleted device from BT, deleted data from services, uninstalled Garmin connect, rebooted the smartphone and watch... It's the same. Some times it is online (with instant notifications, others my 735XT doesn't notify me at all (only shows that there are notifications on phone).

Just considering downgrade to Oreo again...

Hi Benno and const I advise you to have a chat with Garmin Support and use Mi feedback so we have more people reporting the issue and hopefully there will come a fix from somewhere. Const I read downgrading to Oreo is not recommended by Xioami as you may loose your IMEI.

Hi, I’m having similar issues as well with a new Nokia 7.1 on Pie and a Fenix 5S+. BT disconnects at very short range and I’m not consistently getting notifications as a result. When I first got the phone it was on Oreo and I had no issues. Have done all the things suggested here, have made sure GCM has all permissions, etc. I think all our phones are in the Android One program so could that be the common denominator here?
  • Hi all!

I think I have a solution!!!! At least it seems to be working for me. I reset my connection data. That's all!
    Settings -> System -> Advanced -> Reset Options -> Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth

After this all your Wi-Fi connections will be lost. The same with bluetooth devices. In my case, when I did this, android an my FR735XT initiated pairing sequence without my intervention, Just needed to input the PIN generated.

    Hope it helps.

Hi I think I did this once and I did not see any improvement. Can you confirm that the connections is stable ? Please open the controls menu and look if it keeps connected for more than a minute.

Can you explain in more details step by step how did you then pair both devices ?
  • Can you confirm that the connections is stable ?

Mitko As far as I can tell is as stable as it was prior Pie upgrade. I activated "Connection Alert" under Bluetooth on my FR 735XT. Since I did what I wrote on my previous reply that I don't get any alert. And it feels like all notifications are on my FR.

Bear in mind that my issue was on a Garmin Forerunner 735XT, not on a Fenix. Nevertheless the symptoms were similar.

Can you explain in more details step by step how did you then pair both devices ?

It append so quick. Once I done reset to my connections, 2 things happened:
    a) Garmin Connect on my A2 Lite asked for PIN
    b) my Forerunner showed a new pairing PIN

Then I inserted the new generated PIN and that's all.

Previously to this action I tried:
    1. remove device from phone
    2. uninstall garmin Connect
    3. check for update for my Forerunner
    4. fresh install Garmin Connect

Before you cleared the WiFi and Bluetooth data did you had the Bluetooth on the phone and watch On. Did you remove the device from the GCM as well before that or you just hit clear data with everything On ?
  • Just hit clear data with everything on. Then it almost looked like magic...
  • Today I have received the security update January for Xiaomi Mi A1 but it seems that the issue is still not resolved...
  • I tried this solution and it seems it worked. The important things is to not unpair the watch in GCM.
So after the BT reset, automatically the code will be shown on the watch. The BT now seems stable and the battery drain now is as usual. Thank you
