Here is my comparison on the same 26.75 mile ride. I did two rides on 11.00 and two after reverting to 10.53.
Here are the two rides I did on 11.00 Ride 1 - 5x 1102ft, Garmin Connect Corrected 1150, Strava Corrected 1228 Ride 2 - 5x 1086ft, Garmin Connect Corrected 1163, Strava Corrected 1213
I'm also seeing issues with accumulated elevation with v11.00. Not as bad as the last lot of issues where the Fenix was reading about 50% of the actual elevation, more like 10-15% down. My ride to work averaged about 207m, and home about 275m, after v11 it's coming in at about 190m/250m. Today's ride in read as 199m on the fenix 5, but 255m on my Edge 1030. This weekend's ride came in at 930m when all other sources showed it to be around 1027m. These constant elevation issues are a real pain.
Round trip with a difference of 300m between Elev. gain and Elev. loss?!!!! It is RIDICULOUS!!!!! Come on!!!!
Look at the starting and the finishing point elevation that are the same: 70m of difference! During a nice and sunny day with a super stable weather!
I made altimeter calibration using GPS just before start the activity. Auto pause on and set to the minimum 1,6km/h. FW was 11.00 and a sw reset was made after its installation to have a clean situation.
Attached the .tif file imported on GPXSee: as you can see the gap between elev, gain and loss is limited to the difference between the starting and finishing point, that it is correct! Elev gain is quite comparable with the one indicated by Garmin (50m difference).
So, I think that at least in my case the cause of the wrong elevation related calculation is the vertical speed: riding up, so at slow speed, elev gain is calculated quite well, but riding down so at faster speed the elev loss calculation is completely wrong.
These are activities with a slow (compared to previous MTB downhill) descent speed, in the same condition (fw, calibration,...):
i can't tell about mountainbiking, but i did a lot of skimo's, hikes, trailrunning and skiing. and for me ascent and descent values looks good. i didn't had the problems again.
Which fw? 12.00? beta? SkiMo has the same speed of MTB (slow ascent, fast descent): so do you obtain comparable ascent/descent totals during a round trip?
activities last month has been skimo's, hikes, trailrunning with FW 12.00, skiing with 12 and 12.51 beta (just saw that there is a new beta 12.21 ??? released on January 15th). around 1% differenz in ascent and descent. For example ascent 444m, descent 447m ascent 951m, descent 943m
