GPS not updating have SW update to 11.0

Ok. I expected the GPS version to update on to v2.30 when I updated to SW v11.00
but it did not. On the software about screen, in fact it says GPS 4.40! (yes it shows the ! as well)

so how are we supposed to get that GPS version?

I'm trying to connect to garmin express, but my PC + Garmin Express + 5x do not seem to want to play nicely.
Thanks for the support
  • On the FR935 and the FR645 you needed to connect it to garmin express twice. The first time to install the new FW. Then after you get the GPS version of the !, it would download the new GPS FW on the next sync. If they are not playing nice, I am not sure what you can do.

The Fenix noticed the update over the air. So either via Wifi or perhaps Garmin Mobile. Not sure. I just went to System Software update and it noticed that v11 was ready to install. so I said yes.

I go to garmin express. and connect via USB. it didnt appear to reflect anything except that v11 is installed. There are 4 map update that it seems to want to install, but as thats a source of another post, those install NEVER work. Its forever "There was an error installing the update". Something that many seem to have issue with.

I disconnected from the USB. and reconnected. Did it a few times. Nothing different appeared to have happened.

Not sure why USB devices and garmin has to make this so complicated. Why doesnt it just frackin install the GPS udpates.

I had the same problem and managed to update the GPS file using Garmin Web Updater.

    Thanks for suggestion.

Web Updater! Holy smokes. I've not heard of that since my early Forerunner days. I didn't think that still worked. I will search around and try to find it (hint hint link here)

Dang it! I installed WebUpdater. and It Identified that the GPS chipset has an update. but the transfer was aborted. The "Update file" was corrupted.
I've tried this a couple of times.

Sorry it didn’t work . The only difference for me was I used the Mac version but that shouldn’t affect the file update.
  • I'm on FW version 11 and also don't have Galileo support - in the GPS settings it shows:
"GPS: 4.40 (!)" -just like jetguat mentioned in the first post here. I don't know how come I have GPS v. 4.40 when Garmin staff says it should be 2.30 ;).

Download the BETA firmware 10.58 (fenix5X_1058Beta.zip) from here: http://gawisp.com/perry/fenix_D2_tactix/

Extract the ZIP, copy only GPS_v224\GUP2957.GCD to the GARMIN\RemoteSW folder on the watch. Disconnect from computer and install the GPS update. Theren re-connect to Garmin Express... It will sho an update for GPS then.

Garmin GPS 4.20 was released with the 9.20 Beta and then they stepped down the version numbers.

I had the same issue some time ago and the above way solved the GPS versioning for me.
  • same happened to me here are steps i took and fixed my issue

i did update F 5X via Garmin mobile > upgrade to 11.00 was successful but with 4.3! GPS > no Galileo .
did soft reset > did not help

connected to PC ( Garmin Connect ) >system proposed first update was new GPS 2.3 > problem solved

  • There's there is no gps+glonass+Galileo only GPS+glonass or GPS+Galileo
