Fenix 5: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=11663

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

10.55 Change Log Notes:
• Fixed an occasional issue where the displayed lengths or distance during a pool swim could briefly show incorrect values.
• GPS FW (2.24) should improve pace accuracy for running/walking activities and track performance for open water swimming activities.
Our public beta users are encouraged to load the new GPS firmware and use it for their next activities. If there are any activities where the GPS performance did not improve, we would like to see them. This also includes if comparing to previous activities. To send data to us for evaluation, please include the following in an email to "][email protected]:
• FIT file(s) from Garmin\Activity folder
• FIT files from previous activities if comparing same routes

• GarminDevice.XML from the Garmin folder
• Subject line of email must use the following format: ‘Fenix 5 Series - GPS 2.24 Evaluation - DATE_ForumUserID_ActivityType’ (ex. "20180823_odsweng_Walk")
Following these instructions will ensure your email and files are delivered and sorted correctly. Lastly, you will not get an email reply unless we need more information from you, but rest assured, the data sent will be evaluated.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

I am not seeing any real difference in this release on my hike. GPS is still sloppy and the pace is "lumpy". Just a little better around the bends this time likely due to Galileo being turned on.

Perhaps I shouldn't swing my arms?

My trace today looked better than previous runs, but I had a bad stomach today and cut my run short. Will try again on a longer one tomorrow....

likely due to Galileo being turned on.

Hmmm, I don't have Galileo on my 5 and GPS version shows as 0.00

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I can confirm also less jagged tracking and pace seemed improved. Clearly there is some kind of correction / smoothing algorithm going as you can see where the direction is corrected abruptly then goes smoothly again.

Pace is quite laggy, but I guess this is normal considering GPS pace needs some heavy smoothing. Otherwise it was ok most of the time, keeping in mind that it was pace from past, so for example top of hill I would still see my slow climbing pace for a while until it would catch up. :) Usually I use Stryd for pace.

Distance was slightly overestimated (by 1% on short 8k run), clearly the improvement doesn't get rid of problematic points like tall buildings that might cause a bigger jump / overestimation in distance. Still within margin error I've used to so far with the watch.

Did a 35min GPS soak (left the watch outside connected and recording) before run.

Like always too early to say based on one run, but so far seems like a step in the right direction.
• Unfortunately for me in open water swimming the results were no good . Hope that happened because I had in GPS mode and not in GPS+GLONASS.
I'll see tomorrow

Good news in today morning open water swimming activity. Using GPS+GLONASS, the result was excellent!!!
The trace was realistic showing exactly my trial. Keep trying Garmin!!

• tekosta please make your activity public so others can see it, otherwise it's no use...;-)

Have you connected your watch back to Garmin Express? You need to do it in order to update your GPS after the FW update.

Sorry, l hope now it's OK
• i wonder if they fixed something regarding the elevation problem. at least when (mountain) biking the elevation is ridiculously low. in all gps based apps i get about the double elevation than with the fenix altimeter. that makes me sick.

garmin can get ready to rma my fenix after the next official firmware, if this problem is not fixed by then. i would say that the elevation is one of the most important metric - at least for mountain biking.

(1) No wonder that you get more elevation by gps based apps ...because they are definitely wrong especially if you have some (or a lot) small ups and downs as you usually have with MTB ...but DOUBLE elevation seems to be in deed a big difference.
(2) Compare with other air pressure / barometer based devices. Or search for a track which definitely goes only and straight uphill where you know the altitude of the start and end and compare it with the fenix.
(3) Your problem is solved then. If not:
(4) That´s definitely not a firmware problem ...because I don´t have this issue. But I already had one with my first FENIX (there is a thread about it) ...and nothing but a RMA solved the problem.
• thank you for your answer.
peronally i would assume, that the elevation with a barometer is higher than with gps - at least it should be quite close (otherwise i have to question one or both ways to measure altitude).

my elevation is waaaayyyy off when cycling. no matter if i cycle in the flat or in the mountains. also: if i start a flat ride, i begin with an altitude of 40 m and after an hour i come back and the altitude is 55. that does not seem to be right. with gps i start at the same hight as i return.

on sunday i will ride with someone who has one of the larger garmins for bikes and i will try to compare the results.
