Version 10 issues

So after updating to version 10 yesterday I've had nothing but issues. The biggest one being severe battery drain. When I say severe, I mean the watch will discharge from 100% to dead in 1 hour 30 minutes. Also, the optical heartache monitor doesn't work anymore (no green flashing light). I've tried a factory reset, turning the Bluetooth off, connecting to garmin express instead of connect and just generally turning all unnecessary things off but none of it has helped. I've also tried rolling the firmware back using the instructions on another thread but I couldn't get it to revert back to version 9.2. Has anyone else has issues with the latest firmware?
  • Nothing unusual here. Everything is ok so far.

Have you tried a soft reset (press and hold the light button for 20 seconds until it switches off)?
  • IF you've already done a full factory reset and nothing's worked, you should contact Garmin Support.

Yes that's the first thing I tried. Weirdly, the battery issue seems to have resolved itself now. Not sure how but I'm not complaining. The heart rate monitor however is still off. Very strange indeed. I'm hoping when they release 10.5 then it'll clear whatever fault is causing it.

I spoke to them yesterday and all they said was to send it in, pay £140 and they'd send me out a refurbished unit. The watch is 30 days outside of the warranty which is typical. Paying £140 for what is likely a software issue isn't something I'm overly keen on doing. The battery seems to have sorted itself out somehow however the heart rate monitor still doesn't work. I did notice they'd
add some changes to the HRM in the new update so maybe that explains the likely cause

If I were you, I would go for the exchange. After a severe battery drain like that, some piece of hardware inside of the watch must have failed. It probably finished burning up, and now is no longer a drain. This would also have harmed the battery as the battery is likely not designed to provide that level of energy without damage.

My watch auto updated to 10 and the only issue I have found so far was that of the flashlight not staying at full brightness when activated by a hot key.

I assume you have double checked that the Wrist Heart Rate Sensor hasn’t been somehow disabled in Settings?

Edit to add: If you’ve tried rolling back the firmware and can’t, maybe you could consider updating to a beta and see if that rectifies the issue. As far as I’m aware rolling back from a beta release to a full release is doable if it throws up more problems.

I hadn't thought about that actually. Potentially the HRM module as that's the only other thing that isn't working. The battery is stable now and doesn't seem to have sustained any damage as I went out for a 1 hour hour ride this morning and it used approximately 5% with 3 external sensors attached which is about right. It hasn't dropped since which is promising. I was just a bit cautious about accepting the exchange as if it's a software issue then I'm back to square one and I'm £140 out of pocket. I may give garmin support another call and see if they can shed any light on it

I initially has something similar by which the backlight took about 4 seconds to come on after pressing the button. It's working properly now though. I may try your suggestion and try the beta release. Hopefully that'll sort it. Yeah I double checked that the HRM was selected. I tried cycling it on and off a few times but no joy. Very strange. The watch hasn't put a foot wrong in 13 months. Just all of a sudden it's playing up.
