Seems to be back to its (relatively) snappy old self again with v10.51. Finally!
  • Elevation fixed! I'll get a better test tomorrow but today looked great.
  • I can also confirm that elevation is fixed. 16 mile MTB ride reported same figures as my Edge 520+ with only a few feet difference. Auto correct elevation on Garmin connect and strava only changed the numbers by a negligible amount. Finally my faith is being restored. Now please fix average cadence on the 5x Garmin, it is still under reporting by 5-10rpm across a ride.
  • 'Estimated Finished Time' fixed in Virtual partner when follow course. Great!
  • I went on a 25 mile ride today. Watch reported an elevation gain of 1010 ft. Garmin auto corrected the elevation 1040. Strava corrected to 1078. This version seems much better than prior versions where I would be off by 20% or more.

I'm not noticing much battery life improvement, maybe a little. I lost 9% over 24 hours in smart watch mode when it used to be around 5%. I'm not sure what changed that drains more battery, but it's definitely not a "20 days in smart watch mode" watch anymore.

What's everyone's thought on the battery life? And during activity? Haven't heard any complaints yet. Any stats to report? I'm a bit late to this game. Just updating now. I like what I'm hearing so far though.

Battery is better than previous versions.

24hrs lost 11 % with Chrono style watchface include 7 km hiking (GPS) and 10 km running (GPS).
  • the watch seems more responsive than before, or maybe it's a placebo...
  • After another ride today I think the elevation issue is fixed!!! The elevation graphs from my FR910XT and my Fenix 5X look almost identical. That was definitely not the case for the last few software versions. The graphs look the same but the listed total elevation gain is different. 176m for the 910 and 144m for the 5X. That's a 22% difference even though the graphs look very similar. I don't know how to tell which is more accurate or more correct. Maybe I need a third device to use as a comparison. ;)

I also seem to be getting slightly better battery life now with V10.51. It is too soon to be sure but it seems to be better than before, but still not as good as it once was. But overall very pleased with the results from V10.51 so far. THANKS GARMIN!!!
  • I agree with the general sentiment above -- and specifically, the lag coming off a third-party watchface is MUCH improved.

Battery life appears to be better -- not crazily so, but significant. I loaded this yesterday morning at ~70%, right now I'm at 59%, and there was a ~40 minute run in there this morning with GPS. That's in the game -- not as good as it used to be, but it appears better than it has been in the last few betas. I need to do a full charge and see what it looks like from there to know for sure but my first impression is positive.
