Fenix 5X - 9.02 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.02 Change Log Notes:
  • Added Physio TrueUp support. Physio TrueUp syncs activities done on other Garmin devices, allowing your device to more accurately reflect your training status and fitness. Activities from other devices will appear in the Activities menu, and they will update your Totals for Running, Cycling, and Swimming. Your Training Status, Training Load, and VO2 Max will be updated using activities from your other devices, and your Recovery Time will be also updated using data from other devices supporting Physio TrueUp. Enable Physio TrueUp in Settings > Physiological Metrics on the device or in Device Settings on Garmin Connect Mobile.
Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
  • Renton82, Please don't take this the wrong way. I see you have an issue with your barometric altimeter, but your videos do not show
    1. why
    2. how to replicate

I just attempted those issues based on what you show in the video and my altimeter/Barometer do not function in the way you've shown. I set my calibration to 5423 feet for my current location and it has held that for the last 15 minutes. I wish that i could have replicated the issue as that would make it easy for the Garmin engineers to replicate. Have you ever talked to someone at Garmin US? I suspect that they would very much like to get your watch back for some testing. I suspect that something is getting lost in translation between your in country support and the Garmin guys in Kansas. I know it is not your responsibility to chase them down, but my experience with the US support team has been fantastic. So much so that I just bought another Fenix (a 5s this time) for my wife.

As i said, it's something related to quick change in atmospheric pressure, like swim or ski, if you want to replicate quickly, start a swim activity in a swimming pool and after finish it (altimeter at this point will be off by many meters), try to re calibrate: you will see that altitude doesn't change if not very slowly. Storm alert is very simple to replicate: just activate it and than set you altitude lower by 15 or 20 meters, in a few minutes you will receive a storm alert and barometer arrow will face down for hours
  • Nope. 10 minutes ago I set the storm alert to the most sensitive then re calibrated altitude from 88m to 2m. No storm alert or change in the arrow . I then wondered if it had something to do with your Barometer Watch Mode setting (auto, Altimeter or Barometer) so repeated the test two more times, one each with the Barometer Watch Mode set to Altimeter and then Barometer (my default is Auto). Maybe I need to wait more than 10 minutes each time but I could not reproduce your issue.
  • I've done more! I made also videos for report all bugs found, but they have never answered me, so I stopped to waste my time.

    Look at these videos:

    Altimeter is bug:

    Barometer arrow bug:

    https://youtu.be/tpq319TzqkY

    Storm alert bug:

I have reported these bugs two months ago, no answer...

I have similar bug with altimeter...
  • Could be less battery drain ... but I have to watch some more time ...

Still not sure ... could be a little bit less ...

And - Garmin - is this beta really as of May 25, 2017 (!) ... the year could be minimum (and easy) to do right !!

agree, i tried it again as well. It didn't replicate. I then slept in the watch and this morning the elevation on the watch has dropped 3 feet from 5423 to 5420. 3 feet of drift over roughly 10 hours is acceptable to me. I can not replicate these bugs. I understand that you have this issue, but potentially it is not a software bug, or there is some other key to activating it.

are you re-calibrating the altimeter before the watch is fully dry?

I don't know what could be involved that triggers storm alert, also beta team are able to replicate this issue.

I calibrate altimeter after blow away water from alti/baro sensor, but anyway, this bug appears also while i was skiing...
  • I assume at some point there will be an actual production release of new software rather than just endless beta tests? I purchased my Fenix 5X in February or March and have seemingly seen 3 or 4 new beta versions pushed out but no final production version. I agree with the commentary that not fixing the numerous bugs in favor of new feature development is inexcusable. I'm having to power cycle my watch every time I complete an activity so it counts stairs correctly. What a joke...

@renton, thanks for the info, I will pass this time, I just can not see the use to try a beta, and these dudes have not fix any old issues, this is a international papa/mama store. Please garmin buy back my watch, it really sucks.
