Fenix 5x as a Golf GPS

I have the Fenix 5X and have been trying to use it as a GPS for golfing. The accuracy of this device prevents me from using it as it is out as much as 50 yards at times. Is there a calibration or something that needs to be done in order to use this watch for golfing?
  • Same here with my Fenix 5. Even though I have my default golf distances set to yards, because I have metric measurements set as my default for running / cycling, it seems to ignore the yards for golf preference. If I change the overall distance unit of measure to miles, I then get an accurate yardage reading during a round of golf. Hopefully someone can look at this at some point, as I have to currently keep switching depending on activity.

  • Same problem with my Fenix 5S Plus.

I had opened a support case with Garmin but it didn't go anywhere.

I understand that I can change my default distance units from meters to miles (in order to get yards) but when there's a different distance setting available for Golf in Garmin Connect I don't see why Garmin hasn't developed this in to the software to follow through to the phone.

It shouldn't really be a problem for me to run in KM and golf in yards on a £500+ multi-sport watch. The solution shouldn't be for me to alter my running mindset to start recording in Miles.

Any view from Garmin as to sorting this?

  • Hi, I have a fenix 5 plus, where can you change the distances in yard for golf as there is no place to do so in the golf parameters ?

  • in the Garmin Golf app for IOS phones.

  • This is probably a stupid question but how do I use my Fenix 5x as a golf GPS. I first purchased a 5x back in 2017 and quickly found/installed a third party golf gps at that time that worked great while I still had the watch. I had buyer's remorse about the watch and returned it. Two and a half years later I just bought another 5x. Can't figure out what I did then or what I need to do now in order to get a golf gps app on it. Any help is greatly appreciated. - J.R.
