Roll out by percentage, what kind of monejy business are we talking here. either we can all update or non, either is out or not, seriously like there are 1st, 2nd and 3er class buyers with you guys.

You guys are a joke of a company.

Fix the bugs and release the firmware like normal companies.
  • My Fenix 5X updates in the first rollout :) but my FR 935 updates in the final rollout :( can you imagine the emotional roller coaster :p
  • Talking about Apple. Starting recently they allow phased releases of apps. And the fix schema they use starts with a very slow rollout rate of 1% on the first day, than 2% then 5% ... 100% takes 7 full days.

    See: https://itunespartner.apple.com/en/apps/news/31070842

And did you ever wonder why that big iOS update you were waiting for so long and that everybody is talking about is not yet available to you?

So the customer is the quality controil in this joint?

Show stopper issues are rare in production releases, but they do happen.
  • I have always suspected that updating via garmin express gives me the update even when a BT or Wifi sync does not during a phased rollout. Could be co-incidence but it worked for me again this time round (7.60).
  • The frustration comes from the following -

Beta is not for APAC units, which I happen to have. Therefore I am not supposed to install the beta as per the beta release notes.
Therefore Garmin does not get feedback from APAC users regarding the betas.
However Garmin can then decide to release an official firmware which has NOT been beta tested on APAC devices.
If Garmin wanted to reduce the risk of having a showstopper in a release (not found in the betas) that is distributed to all users, then they should make the betas available to all users.

It is a fancy watch to me, and if I did encounter a showstopper I would simply put another of my watches on, besides I also have a phone for the time. This is a non issue for me.

World burning stuff, certainly not. Frustrating, yes.

So please try to keep the comments non personal.

I'm with you. Still waiting to be updated at least to 7.X.

I understand that there are people in our society that just need to complain about “something”. I understand that there are people in our society that feel “entitled” for some reason or another. I understand that sometimes people just talk, just to talk.

I understand that you had points that you had to get off your chest and while you didn’t have any “solutions” to the points that you made, I want to help. So, what I suggest is that you work hard to get a job at Garmin (don’t tell them that you posted that their a joke of a company, they may frown about that), then when you work your way up the corporate ladder so that you can put yourself to be in a position of power to INSIST that Garmin rolls out an update to everyone on Planet Earth faster than 1-3 days.

    Good luck bud :)

  • Why not give the end user/expensive sports watch owner the choice to update on a phased basis or immediately? That couldn't be too difficult to implement. Conservative users could wait and more adventurous types could risk it all by going early.
  • There was a similar discussion on the 935 forum. Someone reported that the firmware is available on the website if you know where to look. If you can’t wait then go and find the thread and check it out, it might be similar with the F5
  • It’s a shame that people get so stressed over things like activity sports watches and other electronic gadgets that rely on periodically updated software/firmware. I have a 235 and a 5X - my wife has a VA3. We don’t mess about with them, we just just use them to compliment our active lives and download updates when they come along. All three work really well and do pretty much all they are supposed to do. Reading all the forums whether it’s Garmin or Fitbit or Mini or SLK - boy is there some serious stress in the world.

Odie21, thanks for your suggestions about getting a job at Garmin. I am a criminologist, I believe I already got the best job ever, I just could not have another one, I love what I do, thanks anyway.
I hope I will get a case file with odie21 as a name, I will take care of it as a Garmin employee, I promise I make not discriminate even if it is a family member, I will take my time as a Garmin employee.
I understand an 800 dollars’ watch entitles me to get a proper working watch, something I still don’t have. I understand as a customer I am allow to complain when the product I bought doesn’t work properly.
If you think education is expensive try ignorance, ohhhh sorry you did, go and get educated bud.
