Where does the weather widget get its information from

Hi,

I was wondering where the weather widget gets its information from. I know that it its sync'd from GCM - but how does i know what zip code I am in?
I usually have GPS disabled - so that probably doesn't help

Thanks
  • The sense of entitlement coupled with the lack of understanding of very basic principles of physics on this forum continues to baffle me.

A wrist-based temperature sensor that's placed 1 cm away from the human body will always show overstated reading at rest. During activity, the airflow will lower the temperature but if the device is worn directly on body, it will never be accurate. It will be accurate when placed on bike handlebars or when placed on top of clothing during hiking.

That's why the Tempe sensor exists. It's not a workaround, it's a solution that allows you to place the sensor away from any sources of heat that distort the readings. I do not know why I even have to write this but I do hope it does help.

(In addition, the GC web app shows temperature reading obtained from the internet for the location of the activity.)
  • Yep. I even have fun in a hot tub or sauna where my 5s doesn't match the temperature gauges. So I took my 5s off my wrist and...what do you know...it rises to near the gauges. So outside in the cold, it doesn't match because it's getting heat from my body, and inside it doesn't match because it's getting cooled by my body. People have to realize that as long as it's on your wrist, it will never match outside temperature.

    Hi thr4,
What do you mean by "sense of entitlement?"

People are entitled to ask questions in this forum without arriving with a "basic understanding of physics" or being ridiculed by other people within the forum.

I don't think it's that baffling that a person might expect the temperature reading on his/her watch to tell you the actual temperature, or something close to it. If the watch's proximity to the person's body throws off the temperature drastically, then that's useful information for me to learn in the forum.

Another person posted above that the watch's temperature reading is only to "calibrate the barometer for elevation readings." This is also useful information (not to mention conflicting with other people's responses.)

    Hi,

everytime I scroll to the weather widget it is 'waiting for data'. Even when Fenix has just synchronized with GC. After some time the information appears, but it usually takes too much. Does anyone know if we can control the way Fenix get the information about weather? or how to make it faster?

    thanks.
