    Hello all,

We apologize for the fenix 5 update issues that occurred yesterday. The problem has now been fixed and the 7.00 update file for the fenix 5 will install successfully to the device.

Between these comments and the comments about the Garmin app on Google Play, Garmin has been in the glory of disaster for a couple of months.
What has happened in the Garmin development department? Is there a monkey directing the development department?
Will you be the company that you were?
Do I already sell my Garmin Fenix 5 or wait a month?

I am baffled by this update. It's posted as a "release candidate", AKA "beta" but it's released with a major version number, and the only thing in the changelog is a version number bump?

    What's the deal?
  • As per my post on the previous page, odsweng replied to a post on the 5x thread to say that there are some changes of a type which they wouldn't normally put in the change log - so there are changes not in the log. The beta release will be to check those have no unexpected side effects before releasing exactly this file generally. They've done this a few times in the past for fenix watches (though never with such a minimal change log) and the full release has usually followed in a day or two.

ETA: and the post I linked to on the previous page also says it's basically giving the regular beta testers a chance to get the gold release ahead of the non-beta testers, presumably so we don't have to wait our turn in the phased roll-outs.
  • For example the bug that every sync has messed up the back light settings (overwritten to 1 minute).
  • Sync bugs are often on GC side, not entirely related to the watch.

I'm guess I'm glad for the early access to fhe final version, but I was kinda hoping to see the RunPow data field thrown in as an early Christmas present/ Easter egg, but no dice. Have to wait a few more days.
  • Does anyone know if the Running Power field will be in included in the software or if it will be a standalone Connect IQ data field?
  • 7.0 includes the Connect IQ 2.4 platform, which is necessary for Running Power. But Running Power itself is a Connect IQ datafield, so look for it to be released there, rather than in the firmware. I think I have seen a target date of December 8 for Running Power release. If I were Garmin (which I'm not), I'd release the public firmware 2-3 days ahead of this, to ensure the majority of users had performed a sync and updated, rather than fielding a number of complaints from people trying to install RP on unupdated firmware.
