Elevations corrections enabled? Please tell me your FW and Reference ID

Does anyone have problem with elevation corrections enabled on Fenix 5?
Problem also described here: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/garmin-connect/1257412-garmin-connect-not-recording-barometric-data-from-my-fenix-5s

According to Garmin support, we are the only 2 people with this problem.
If some of you have this problem and mentioned to garmin support, please give me your Reference ID, so I can say to garmin, there are more of us. If you just found that you have the problem, please register a ticket at garmin, and give them my Reference ID: 10549963K0

Thanks
  • Is there any Data Field I can install to check the fit file extension issue? I do running mostly, don’t have Stryd.

Use DozenRun for example, leave it as it is, run, save, sync, check if it shows on your Garmin account (desk or mobile).
  • I am still discussing with Garmin the problem. According to them, thats the only case in EMEA. They wonder, why am I on FW 6.6.0.0 if they asked me, to downgrade to 6.00. :) no comment

So I am not the only one on this ghost version 6.6 - Maybe we should play at roulette - Anyway, I have returned it for an exchange.
  • Thanks for the tip for DozenRun. Firstly it's a great data field, secondly it confirms the full issue happens with my watch - Elevation Corrections disabled and no CIQ chart in Garmin Connect. All of a sudden this becomes a much bigger issue for me as I was looking forward to the Running Power field...
  • I have also tried to upload a run from where all was working as expected (I have the original FIT files) - after re-uploading the same file, the elevation corrections are enabled. That 100% confirms it's a back end issue and not related to anything on the watch at all. Interestingly, when the file was uploaded originally, the software was reported as 4.10.0.0. Now, after reuploading of the same file, the software is 4.4.0.0. This allows me to pinpoint the date the issue appeared to between 23-29 July 2017, when my "4.10" started to be reported as "4.4" (there was no such version) and the issue appeared. I think this is consistent with the case reported by Mathias. What's confusing is that currently the version number is reported correctly as 6.78.0.0 (I am on the latest beta).

Lastly, exporting the original activity file from Garmin Connect for an activity before this issue appeared results in a file which, when reuploaded, results in an activity page with the issue again manifesting itself.

I am awaiting Garmin to get back to me on an open support case.

Has anyone tried to edit the GarminDevice.xml file on Fenix itself? That's one of the files that contain the unit ID format in plain text. Wondering if changing that to a "working" ID will result in FIT files with the same ID.
  • Received a standard reply from support advising to update and do a master reset (which I won't do). If OP is still interested in the customer case reference ID I can provide via message.
  • I got a proposal from Garmin to replace the watch. They told me, I can wait for them to fix it, but I read on other threads, it can take almost a year.
Anyway, they told me, they need to follow the procedure to verify the error on standard software (not beta) what I can understand.

Probably it's cheaper to exchange the watch (as the manufacturing price is definitely much lower than sale price) than to pay a developer to fix garmin conect. :)
  • Hi all,

If you have encountered the issue of Elevation Corrections turning on automatically, please email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Elevation Correction - Forum." In your email, please include the unit ID of your fenix device and the exact model (5/5s/5x/wifi). I believe we have a fix for this issue, but we need that information for each individual user in order to implement it.

    Thanks,
    Mel
