Battery Drain

Hi. I could not find anything on this in recent posts, so I guess it is something only concerning my watch. Unless I have overlooked something. Until about 3 weeks ago the battery life on my Garmin 5 was something which impressed me the most, as I only needed to recharge my watch every 5 or 6 days. But now all of a sudden I have to charge it every 2 or 3 days. I did not change anything on the watch at all, in fact I even did a complete reset of the watch, turned off the notifications and back light, but nothing changed. I still have to charge every 2 or 3 days. This is rather annoying and frustrating, especially knowing that it was not always like that. Does anyone have this same issue, or know of the reason why this is happening? Has there been a firmware update perhaps which is leading to this sudden battery drainage? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
  • Found out that turning BT off in the Fenix helps a lot. Try that, maybe it is an update in the Phone or in the connect and not in the Fenix itself

This is not due to our settings. I've had 24/7 heart rate monitoring on ever since I've owned this watch and battery drain was never as severe as of the past 2 weeks or so.
  • Try a hard reset and don’t touch any settings. Charge full and run for 24 hours to see if that resolved your issue. If not, contact support, it’s likely a faulty device. I’m VERY active (daily bike, gym, swim, etc) and I charge my watch every Monday (and I usually still have 20% or more batt remaining).

I've hard reset my watch last week. Still have battery issues since 6.75. 1-Ghost I know you mean well but I've had this watch since it went on pre-order and the only thing that's changed in its behavior is when I've done fw updates. You're not telling me anything I don't already know. It's not a faulty device unless you consider the software faulty- which I believe is the case. If they've upp'd the Bluetooth polling intervals, or if the new WiFi syncing causes increased usage- who knows. We don't have a way of knowing what newer features cause more drain unless Garmin gives detailed changelogs. Their developers should know enough to intuit what has changed in the latest or most recent updates to know what of their commits might cause excessive power usage.
  • The reason I suspected hardware fault is that this issue isn’t widespread and I had a similar issue with my VAHR after a sw update. When I sent it in, they confirmed faulty hw and sent me a new one. The behavior of the watch was fine prior to the update, but something in the update really triggered the hw issue to be more prominent.

It has been 4 or 5 days since I contacted support about this issue but I have heard nothing from them, is that normal that they take so long?

My apologies that I was abrupt, 1-ghost. I felt a bit rude in my reply
  • I am also having this problem. Only started in the last couple of days. Used to get 10 days from one charge now it’s losing nearly 2% per hour. I’ve tried resets all but to no avail. Hopefully you’ll get some response from Support.

I'm curious if anyone else added their Wi-Fi network to their options. I can't remember when that feature was added but it was sometime in the 6.x version. Maybe it's polling for Wi-Fi more with that on.
