Skin rash from silicon Fenix 5 band

I have used fenix 3 for almost two years with silicon band or the original leather band without any issues. I used it 7x24. Since the end of April I have the Fenix 5. I is smaller and it should be more comfortable but I got a skin rash from it under the silicon band on my left wrist. I don't know if anyone has any kind of issues like this. I am a little bit disappointed. I may order the leather band and use this one only when exercising.
  • Hi Folks,
I wore a Fenix 3 for 2 years with the red band with no issues, 2 weeks with the Fenix 5 and I have a terrible rash. Right over where the buckle is on the inside of my wrist. I just changed to the green band that came with it and cleaned the black band out. I have also loosened the watch strap off a couple of notches to see what happens. If nothing improves I'll look at a 3rd party leather strap. They are pretty easy to find.
  • unfortunatly after one week i get an rash on my wrist after wearing the fenix (on the thumb side wrist) .
With my old tomtom i got an rash on the same place but that had nikkel pins on that place.

Not sure why i get an rash like this on a place where there is no metal touching.
maybe because i showered with it. I will also try to wear it on the other wrist when going to bed.
  • I wholeheartedly recommend swapping wrists overnight and often, my wrist still isn't 100% but it seems to be better. (With a week on the right wrist to recover). Please let me know if the leather strap is any better, I was going to get one but I don't want to be wasting money on a non-solution especially as they're like £60. Many thanks in advance!

In short for me: original Garmin silicone bands give me rash in a matter of a few days, aftermarket silicone or stainless steel straps from e.g., ebay works perfectly. Been using stainless steel now for many months, not a single issue. Also use it for workouts which works fine since I use a chest strap.
  • I have just had exactly the same issue. Just got a new Fenix 5 plus titanium with solar orange strap and worn it for the first time whilst skiing for the last 10 days. A rash occurred on my left wrist so I moved it to the right wrist and that caused a rash too. Never had any issues with the Fenix 3 stars at all for the 2 years I had it. Strap composition is clearly not right.

  • I'll add myself to this list... I too get rashes from a Fenix 5 and I've owned several Garmin watches in the past with no issues all being warn in the same manner.

  • 3 years Fenix 5x, original black, forest green, and yellow bands. 4x50 minute runs every week and 20+ 4-5 hour rides each year. Never had a band or skin irritation. Always rinse device and towel dry post-activity. Never wear in shower. Otherwise, worn 24/7. No issues with titanium band either.

  • I got a rash over the summer, and switched watches for a time. I believe it's an irritation from being wet 24x7 when it was hot out. Been good for a few months now, but I would bet money on the rash returning come July...

  • I use a titanium band for 50$ from china.

  • Well this is embarrassing. I just developed a rash on my left wrist after starting a new rowing machine workout at the gym. Before that it was mostly weight training. The rowing workout causes me to sweat and from what I can tell, my Fenix 5 does not like it when you sweat. Guess I need to start a post-workout band cleaning habit until I can get something better than the standard silicone band it came with. I'll try to sweat less too.
