Problems with Ant+ connectivity

Does anybody NOT have problems with third party ANT+ devices and the F5? My experience is as follows:
- Stryd: not usable; tons of drop-outs on runs. Most importantly long pauses of 30-60s with zero values
- Powertap P1 pedals: around 10-20 drop-outs on a 50 mile ride; most of these drops are really short
- Stages: Useless - zero connectivity - tried Bluetooth and ANT+

Wondering if the F5 is just flawed (weak antennas?) or if I got a bad model. Spoke to Garmin support two weeks ago and they asked me to wait for further software updates.

Are there people out there that do not have these kind of problems?

Dear Garmin team please be informed all this topic's viewers need an action.

Seriously? that's not going to go anywhere, if you called Garmin support, instead of posting on a user to user forum you would find out that they are A) aware of this issue, B) working on a software fix, C) Give you the option to send it in for a replacement or return.

I returned mine and purchased a 5x, As much as ranting on here shows that there's an issue, you need to be proactive and sort it out directly with Garmin Support.

  • Please, could we give Garmin one possibility that they aren't incapable and they aren't a mass of ignorant people? The fact that not every fenix 5 / 5s are affected by the ANT+ dropout problem (mine is working properly), means that the problem isn't of easy resolution...

Therefore if you also contact Garmin support you could give them one more precious information to solve the problem, rather than Cry and complain here.

Are you referring to the 5s or the 5? Interested to know if there are any F5 which are NOT affected by this....

A F5 Sapphire user here that has The HRM Run 4, Tempe, Speed & Cadence bike sensors and don't have any problems with them. I have to step a few metres from the bike for it to lose connection. I don't think it has a strong an antenna as the Vivoactive HR I have but it's still not giving me any problems.

Also a F5 Sapphire user with HRM Run 4, HRM Swim, GSC10 (one bike), BePro Power Meter, Garmin speed sensor, (second bike) and Decathlon ant+ speed/cadence sensor.
After switching BePro to maximum power, I don't see significant dropounts...
  • Sent my F5 to Garmin Germany 2.5 weeks ago and have not heard back from them. Their support just told me that they have a huge backlog and that I won't get my F5 back for another 4-6 weeks. They can't even track it in their system right now. One of the worst conversations ever with a support organization. Garmin seems to be clueless. So disappointing - four months of poor data and now another 4-6 weeks with zero. Thanks Garmin!!! Nice job.
  • How long they informed you should wait?

All the users that have no drop outs, could you post images of an example run/ride? One of the guys on here posted that he had no drop outs and uploaded his data and there were heaps of drop outs.

Please note:***The garmin mobile app does not show drop outs, Garmin have started masking it buy smoothing the data, If you look on garmin connect in your browser you'll see the drop outs. It's pretty sad way of hiding the drop outs if they've done it intentionally..
