Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

how did you get a replacement cable?

Contact Garmin support, explain the problem and ask for their recommendation on next steps towards resolving issues with your watch. If they want to replace your cable, they'll send you a new one.

I have received a new cable from Garmin.

It is worse than the original one. At no point have I been able to get a connection with this cable and my F5x.

We now have 3 cables in the house between my F5x and my wife's F5s. I get intermittent connection with the 2 original cables that came with the watches and no connection at all with the replacement cable from Garmin. My wife's F5s happily connects with all 3 cables and you can wiggle the cable. or whirl the watch around, to your hearts content and it does not break the connection with the F5s. I can only dream of such a thing with my F5x.

I have emailed Garmin asking what's the next step.

Not sure if you're in the US market but the first step for me was Garmin shipped a new cable when that did not solve the issue I had no problem getting them to RMA the watch and try a replacement.
  • New cable received same problem

    New cable received same problem.
New contact with support. And now I have to send back the watch and the cable to the support center.
Minimum 15 days without the watch and I will see.
    Keep you informed
  • Hi all, just had a cable swap done and it seems that the problem is now resolved. Will test and if it comes up again, will let you know. Cheers

Just an update on this issue from my progress.

Like most of us on this thread, I have the issue of the F5x not consistently connecting to the computer via cable, and disconnecting immediately if I just touch the watch or the cable. Garmin have sent me a new cable and it does not work at all.

Garmin are kindly exchanging my F5x now.

We continue to buy F5 watches though. My wife has a F5s. The cable is a really tight fit and once connected nothing breaks the connection until you actually unplug the cable.

My son now has an F5, and it is this that has intrigued me. I was just assuming the issue was a mechanical connection, perhaps slightly out of tolerance (but I'm not an engineer). Comments have been made by others along the lines of things being the wrong size. This seemed a reasonable thought to me when comparing my F5x to my wife's F5s. Her cable is a tight fit, with virtually no movement. Contrastingly, mine has a lot of play. However, we now have another watch to compare with - my son's F5. His socket has just the same amount of play as mine (quite a lot), but the connection to the computer is as robust as my wife's F5s. Nothing apart from deliberately pulling the cable out breaks the connection, you can wiggle the cable in the socket as much as you like and whirl the watch on the end of the cable and the connection remains fine. This does suggest to me that the issue isn't just simply down to the mechanical nature of the socket and cable.

I am looking forward to my replacement watch and hope that will be an end to the issue for me.
  • I think it's better for them to design a new cable instead of replace all the watches...

What's really funny is that the F3 docking station never gave a problem.
They really HAD TO discontinue it, right? :o
