Does anybody know how to pair the Stryd footpod to their F5? I've connected as both a footpod and power in the sensors but none of the data can be seen in Garmin Connect. Anybody able to advise?

    Shop rosazs

    Hi

Paring with ANT and get the data on the F5 is no issue but is with BT, F5 does not see Stryd BT.
To get data you need to install the IQ stryd app and power data field with this your activity will show all stryd metrics .. if there would not be data drop issue which does not happen on my F3HR...It be perfect... It's really a pity...
    Hope something will happen...

Thanks, I have installed both the app and the data field and power was displayed on the watch. I paired the unit as both a footpod and power sensor but no data has been transferred to GC. Sounds like it should have?
  • I am using stryd with IQ ( https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/660a581e-5301-460c-8f2f-034c8b6dc90f ) And I can see the power in real time.
When I finish my training, I can see the data for gps + stryd in garmin connect.https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1651940111
To use stryd as a pedometer, I went to synchronize sensors, pedometers and connected it but never got to try it because I use the pedometer of garmin.
  • Pair Stryd as a foot pod only and use either the ConnectIQ data field or the ConnectIQ App. It will pair by Ant+.

You will however notice when you use it that the f5 drops the Stryd data frequently making the data useless.

    Pairing...

I had stopped using the Stryd footpod with my 735XT due to constant dropout when having it paired as a footpod, I never tried to use as a power meter though. As Chimpware states the data was useless so I basically gave up on it as a means to display power and chalked it up as a $200 bluetooth footpod, very expensive for that purpose only. I'm expecting my F5s on Monday. Now I use the Stryd data field exclusively, Stryd footpod not even paired to my 735XT but have the Garmin footpod paired. I still had the Stryd pod paired to my iPhone 7 just to get running distance, pace and speed with an app I use (iCardio). Anyway I didn't know that you don't even have to pair the Stryd footpod to get the Stryd data field to work. I selected the data field one day and did an outdoor run and all the Stryd data was in my Garmin connect activity and the data field was displaying power in real time. I did the same thing on a treadmill and it worked flawlessly, no dropouts or anything and the pace, distance was in line with pace and distance from the Garmin footpod indoors on the treadmill. I Ran today on my Nordictrack 1750 and no dropouts, none, nada. I don't have the Stryd paired, only the data field selected. I was informed that the Stryd footpod will connect automatically to the data field with no user input. I imagine if I was to run with someone else who has a Stryd footpod it may cause some issues. I know there's a way to identify the Stryd footpod if you're using the Stryd app or ConnectIQ app but not sure about just using the data field. I plan to use my Stryd footpod in the same manner when I get my F5s on Monday. We'll see what happens. Forgot to mention, power, pace and all the data is in the Stryd Power Center just as if the Stryd pod was paired.
  • I have mine paired to my 735XT and have never had more than an odd dropout for very short periods of time.

On the 735XT the data has been great and I use that data all the time.

My comment was regarding the fenix 5 only and it's issue with maintaining the connection, or in recording and reporting the ConnectIQ data.

Just to be clear for everyone, when you pair it as a footpod it still records all the ConnectIQ data including Power in your running data and reports it on Garmin Connect. The only reason to ever pair it as a Power Meter was initially when they shipped there was not ConnectIQ datafield or App and for Garmin watches only, as they do not support running power natively, you had to pair it as a Power Meter and then use Cycling activity if you wanted running power data.

The Stryd Foot Pod is one of the best investments I have made in running tools after my 735XT and I get a lot of value form the data and most recently paced a Half Marathon on running power only and had a very successful race hitting my planned finish time almost exactly.

"Your mileage might vary". mine certainly did. I had my Stryd paired as a footpod on my 735XT (I know not Fenix 5 but similar issue) and the data was so bad, it would even drop pace on certain gym treadmills. The guys at Stryd are great and I think it's a great product but for some reason it didn't work paired with my 735XT, same for the Scosche RHYTHM+. I was just sharing my experiences and what worked for me. I already had the Garmin footpod which is calibrated and works great. Thought I'd give the Stryd pod a try and it just didn't work the way I thought it would. But hey it's working now and the data I get is good. So I just use my Garmin as usual for indoor pace, distance and all and the Stryd pod for power, but still get the pace, power and other data in the Stryd Power Center without having to pair it and still get running and power data in the Garmin Connect activity. Just another way to use it. We'll see how it works with my F5s, maybe it won't, maybe it will.

Sounds interesting, did you write about it somewhere in the forums? Does it gave you a sense of total power expenditure, or just instant?

If it's the IQ graphs from Stryd your not seeing in GC it's a known issue not every account sees them. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1627482736

Gives you both instant and overall power, but unfortunately at this point you either need to use their ConnectIQ App if you want to see both during a run, or you need to choose from; Instant, 3s Average, 10s Average, Lap Average or Average with the ConnectIQ data field. It also provides Leg Spring Stiffness (correlates to running efficiency and effectiveness) and Form Power (energy that is output, but not contributing to horizontal motion). Really just starting to understand the data but giving me a lot of great insights into my running.

Would recommend the Facebook group if you want to read more about others experience.
