Fenix 5S/5 - 2.72 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5S/5 users,

Thank you to everyone for the tremendous response that we've already received this early in the Fenix 5S/5 launch. We are very excited to finally see the Fenix 5S/5 in the market for all to enjoy!

We appreciate you, our customers, who pursue similar passions to our own, and share those stories with us. Not only do you share your stories, but your feedback makes an already fantastic product even better. This we appreciate more than we can express.

Because of our wonderful community we are officially kicking off the Fenix 5S/5 beta program today. We have this program so that we can offer added features, improvements, and bug fixes to our most loyal fans as soon as possible. Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the links below for your specific device.

This beta is a public release candidate and our hope is that next week we can make this build public. We look forward to your feedback

In this beta software there is a GPS update. Before use, we recommend that all users allow their device an opportunity 'soak' and acquire GPS at least 15 minutes, with an open view of the sky, to rebuild ephemeris data

Please send all bug reports to [email protected].

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience. :)

  • Which recommended procedure exactly that you were referring to that the folks here wouldn't want to follow ?

I believe Olu.F is referring to the highlighted instruction in the first post on this thread to conduct a 15 minute static GPS soak; which sparked the debate about whether it's necessary or not and whether it should be 15 minutes or 25-30 minutes to be sure.

Really, what would be more useful is for folk to do is simply follow the instructions given, then look for any bugs/issues to report back to the dev team via the email address in the first post (and perhaps sharing the experiences on this thread so others can confirm/comment). That way we're all more likely to see the things that matter to us, working the way we'd expect the soonest.

    MAC installation

    Hello

Looking at the beta instructions, it appears you cannot do this if using a Mac?
  • Works just fine with a Mac, you're only copying files onto a USB device at the end of the day. No idea why they've got the System Requirements message at the bottom of the installation instructions.

Thanks.... When I looked at the Garmin directory in Applications (show package contents), I could not see the directory locations mentioned in the instructions. Are these files loaded directly into the watch? Sorry, not in front of the Mac at the moment!
  • Yes it's a simple extract then copy/paste job. You will have to overwrite the files in the text directory.
  • Yes, as Webvan says, it's just a simple copy and paste job, you shouldn't need to be extracting or trying to run anything on your Mac (i.e. you shouldn't need to use 'show package contents'). Just copy the files over to the watch, the watch will run the installer itself when you disconnect it from your Mac.

Edit: if you just meant 'show package contents' to unzip the original zipped file, then that's fine.

Thanks for the info. All done! Gave up waiting for Auspost to find my "misplaced" watch coming from the USA with USPS... Bought another watch today, that I can pass to my wife if my first one shows up! Update now in progress.

    The help is really appreciated.
  • Is anyone having issues pairing to Android devices via GCM with this update? I simply cannot get it to pair with my phone after applying the beta release. I'm just doing a sanity check before I revert the update.

I've tried all the easy stuff:
Rebooting both phone and F5; Removing the F5 from the phone and re-pairing; re-installing GCM.

    F5 firmware v2.72
    GPS: 4.22
    Wifi: 2.30
    CIQ: 2.2.3
    BLE/ANT/SNS: 2.70
    WHR: 20.03.19

    Samsung Galaxy S7
    Android 7.0
    GCM: 3.16.1
  • Is anyone having issues pairing to Android devices via GCM with this update?

    Nope

It works here with Samsung Galaxy Alpha.
  • Is anyone having issues pairing to Android devices via GCM with this update?

No, my SGS7 is syncing fine
