Will the Fenix 5x purchased in Canada have Canada maps?
  • It seems all 5X's have access to all maps. My Australian 5X has maps for all areas:

Yes, mine too (APAC version) but the worldwide maps have a level of detail which by all practical means is useless. However, there are some sources that offer detailed and routable maps (with contour lines and POIs). Examples:

I got my 5x on Friday. I'm in Toronto and it definitely has local maps. Not sure how much of Canada is included, but will have a look when I get some time.

The Garmin maps are copy protected and locked to each specific Fenix 5X. Furthermore, there is a LOT of confusion because of Garmin file extension and naming conventions.

Below is a 'snap shot' of how my Sweden-bought watch was populated with the official pieces more than a month ago (today it would have the TimeZoneMap updated to 21.00 from 22 February 2018).

The "Worldwide DEM Basemap" is just a skeleton part with a few main roads. Basically just to be there if we have nothing else to use for 'unmapped' sections.

_WatchName_ _FileName - ca FileSize_ _Garmin Express Name_

Canadian 5x have canada topo maps and the so called usa bycicle map which strangely includes the whole of canada. I think garmin considers us part of USA :) but just so you relax canadia 5x have amazing canadian maps included.

I wouldn't call them amazing. It has city-slicker maps, but is missing topo, elevation, and trail-lines that you can commonly find on maps.me and nrcan.gc.ca. Go hiking in the US and you'll see what I mean - Canadian pre-load is far worse.
