F5X vs Epix disaster

Hi all,

Could we analyze together the risk for F5X to come to the same disaster as epix:
Very expensive watch, with full set of functionalities, but put on the side road of Garmin product management ( few FW upgrades, finally a product with plenty of remaining bugs that will never be fixed).
That's a shame on Garmin, but it is the reality.
What is the probability that it will be the same for F5X?

From what I understood ( source DCrainmaker ), F5 and F5X share the same platform, but we should get the confirmation that the same FW updates will apply to both F5 and F5X.
I have a doubt in this as CPU and memory should be different in F5X to handle maps.
  • Don't forget that F5X users will be able to use openstreetmaps (for free all over the world), so it should avoid buying expensive maps from Garmin.
However, we'll have to check compatibility (DCRainmaker reported it would be possible from his hands on during CES, but no mention in user manual so far).
  • I don't understand why most of you don't understand that you don't need to buy Garmin maps. Just use openstreetmaps. It's literally free. Yes I said free. And in most cases the maps are better, more detailed and updated more recently.

It doesn't matter how good they are, the average user won't read about them in a watch review or hear about them from a salesman in a shop. People that communicate on forums and buy the item are a very small minority compared to the average customer. If Garmin could advertise their maps properly with their product, it would look great. As it stands, you click additional maps and you're faced with huge potential costs.
