Leather Band

Does anybody know if a leather band will be available for the 5 (not s or x) and are there any marketing pictures available as I can't find any info?

Thanks
  • Any news as to when Clever Training will be getting US stock?
  • I'm also a Prime member but when I ordered on Monday it was showing as in stock but the earliest delivery being Saturday. It's also a pound cheaper now. Hopefully it will arrive okay tomorrow as planned.

I waited until they were actually showing as available and in stock now; which happened today for the first time (I think they've only been fulfilling pre-orders until now). Hopefully we'll both have the band in our hands tomorrow :) (although, from memory of a post on the RD dropout thread, you're waiting on an F5 Silver to put it on)

Mine was in stock when I ordered it on the 3rd with PRIME. Its currently still saying ready for dispatch with estimated delivery on the 8th. Even though if I look at the strap on Amazon it still says in stock and I could have it delivered today with PRIME!!! FFS!!

Correct. My silver should have been delivered by the time I arrive home in the next few hours. I'm one of those people that has struggled with connectivity/drop outs on my previous f5 so I'm a little uncertain if I'll return it unopened.

I'm aware you had the drop outs. If you're not that fussed about the difference in look/feel between Fenix 5 and 935, then I'd not blame you for being conservative and not opening and returning for a 935 (they sound solid from monitoring peoples' experiences of connectivity and GPS pace on the 935 forum); but if you do genuinely like the F5's look (particularly the silver with leather band, which I think will look great) then it might at least be worth getting out of the box and seeing if it works better than your returned unit. From what I see so far on the forum, some people are definitely seeing ANT drop out issues, even after hard reset, whilst others (like me) are not seeing these problems. Based on this alone, the software and settings is not a variable, only the hardware; so it could be some units have a fault and a replacement may well be what's required. Worst case, if you find you still need to return the new F5 because it won't connect, I would think the UK distance selling regulations still apply (it arrived, didn't work as you expected (won't connect to your sensors), so you returned it forthwith for a full refund).

Thanks for the advice. I may test it but I'll make sure I can return it in the correct way if that makes sense. I certainly don't want to lie about it being used just to make sure I can get a refund after I've tested it. I suspect it's like you say and distance selling rules will apply and I can state it's used but didn't work as expected.

I think I'm correct in saying that you don't have a hrm4, is that right? From what I've seen on these forums people that have had RD dropouts have all been using a hrm4 rather than an earlier version.

I have two the same version of HRM Run as shown on DC Rainmaker's site here https://media.dcrainmaker.com/images/2015/11/image12.png (so HRM Gen 1) rather than HRM Run Gen 2 shown here https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/530376 . But my thought on sensor connections and dropouts are based not just on the HRM Run, but having connected to: HRMs on ANT+ and BLE, plus ANT foot pods, plus ANT RD Pod, plus the ANT power, speed and cadence signals from the Wattbike trainers at the gym; used in a multitude of combinations (ie. 2 HR sources at the same time using the Auxilliary Heart Rate CIQ app, as well as the Wattbike sensors or foot pod+RD Pod). I've only once encountered some odd behavior from the Wattbike signals early on, but I've not been able to replicate it (and the software betas have moved on since too). Hence I'm left pondering the reasons why I'm doin' OK and others are not.

Edit: back on topic with leather straps, Amazon have just emailed me to say it's been dispatched and will be with me tomorrow :)

Just as an update, received notification from Amazon (USA) that my leather bad has shipped and will be arriving tomorrow.
  • I received mine from Clever Training (US) last week.

It's VERY stiff, so I need to figure out how to break it in before I can comfortably wear it. It looks nice, though.

yup mine is stiff, but is surprisingly comfortable to wear, and I assume will soften up!
