Release date thread

I think it will be good to have one central place to have the latest news people here about the updated release date. DCR said it looks like early March. The garmin site says 5-8 weeks but thats the default time on all new products. Everywhere I read it says "By end of Q1" which is the end of March. Rei still doesnt have it listed yet either. Has anyone heard anything more specific?

That's not how Garmin rolls. People with real inside sources continue to point to this month, March, as the release date for the 5 series but warn over and over it will be in limited, limited quantities and may not be in all SKUs. Certain colors and some bundles may not ship until later.

The first sign they are coming is usually when a "day 1" retailer for Garmin like Clever Training announces that they have tracking information about the arrival *to them* of stock due to arrive in a few days. I don't recall Garmin ever announcing "March xx they go on sale!" in the past and I doubt they will now, in particular since quantities will be severely limited into April or May.

Major review publications from DCRainmaker to The Verge have them now for review and they are sending out models to influencers like Casey Neistat so it is very imminent. I expect someone will have some within the next couple of weeks, just the lucky few.
  • Take this with a grain of salt, but B&H has two different "available" dates on their site: The 5 grey/black and the 5 sapphiere black/black are both listed as "March 16, 2017"; All the other fenix 5 series watches are listed as mid April (they used to say "March 16, 2017" too, but have since switched to "Mid April").

I spoke with a sales rep today who said that they are expectd "here" March 15th, and that was the most up to date info he had. It's possible they've sold out of the first shipment of the others, or that those are the first set they're getting (maybe Garmin expects those two to be the most popular overall?), but he seemed to imply that that March 16th isn't an accident or oversight and is in fact the actual date.

Like I said, this could all be wrong, but I found it interesting.

I pre-ordered mine from B&H in the beginning, then cancelled it as I saw two different ship dates. I end up pre-order mine from Clever Train in early Feb, and per the associate I spoke to they will ship out in the order was received. Hopefully, I am still one of the earlier ones to receive mine.
  • B&H already charge to my CC.

T-mobile does not charge your CC until they are ready to ship in 1-2 days.

Does it mean anything that it is about to ship on the watch?

This is from B&H's website: Customers with USA billing addresses will not be charged until the order is processed for shipping. However, a credit card authorization hold occurs at the time the order is placed. Credit card customers with non-USA billing addresses will be charged in full at the time of purchase.

Expected into Australia in late March, according to the retailer I spoke with. They have no idea which models they will receive.

I just check my cc and 2 days later B&H remove my charges. I didnt call.

Seems highly unlikely we wouldn't see 5's shipping in March.
Garmin is a publicly traded company and they announced they would ship 5's in Q1.
This watch means revenue and with the high cost of the watch they will want to Start shipments in Q1.

Fingers crossed they start soon. :) 5 is on order.
