Latest Fenix 5 Plus maps

What is the latest version of maps for Fenix 5 Plus? Syncing with Garmin Express doesn't find any update and my maps are 2017.30 version.

  • My f5+ has TopoActive Europe 2020.20, North East and TopoActive Europe 2020.20, South West (along with Worlwide DEM Basemap, NR) installed.

  • Garmin express doesn't find any update for my device

  • As far as Garmin Express is concerned the TopoActive maps that it installed there last year do not exist. My f5+ is not at present entitled to any [free default] TopoActive maps.

From reading around, it looks like when they pulled the TopoActive 2021.10 update from the f5+ series because of the problems with it, they pulled all TopoActive maps from the f5+ series instead of rolling back to TopoActive 2020.20 maps. This would at least allow those who have recently received an f5+ series watch with TopoActive maps prior to TopoActive 2020.20 (or no TopoActive maps at all) to install something.

  • Same issue here. I got a refurbished Fenix 5X plus last week with the 2017.30 maps installed. Garmin Express does not offer the update to the 2020.20 maps that were installed on my original watch. I hope this is really just an Express issue.

Anyway, most of the time I use the maps from OpenTopoMap (https://garmin.opentopomap.org).

  • I updated the maps after Garmin announced that the storage issue was solved and before they withdrew the maps. My F5+ hasTopoactive Europe NE 2021.11 and SW 2021.10! So far the maps work fine except when using navigation. To my sports club (Gym and track) I get a track of 6.8km, with older versions and also with an OSM I get 4.9km. The way I normally run is 4.6km and every way I use is present in both maps, but the Fenix never got this. My Garmin Express currently shows no Topo Maps, which is weird! Firmware is 15.30.

  • EDIT: 6/18:

To help clear up speculations, please note:

    • The TopoActive 2021.10 map is not currently being offered by Garmin Express while our engineering and cartography teams work on a new map solution due to how much larger the TopoActive map is now.
    • For the European version Fenix 5 Plus series watches, either the TopoActive map or the Cycle map will provide full map functionality for all Outdoor activities.
    • You will notice the "Cycle" map was being offered by Garmin Express briefly but it has been turned off again.
    • The Cycle map was briefly offered after a small group of customers deleted maps off their watch to make room for the TopoActive 2021.10 map - to then find out Garmin Express is no longer offering the map for now. It was just bad timing. Otherwise, a perfectly acceptable solution but we highly recommend not deleting maps off your watch.
  • Thanks a lot for the clarification. I am looking forward to the new maps and I will check performance and navigation when they are available.

  • I connected my 5X+ this morning and I still only see golf maps offered. I don't want cycle maps. I want the proper TopoActive Europe 2021 maps, which I have already installed once, so I know they fit.

I don't understand why Garmin is making such a meal of all this.

  • I understand that they don't want to distribute the bigger maps, which in addition to taking more space on the watch are also much slower to display (due to the bigger size). What I don't understand is why they didn't revert back to the old 2020 maps in Garmin Express while they are working on a solution!
