incident dectection shall send sms wihtout phone connected to internet

Hi, is it possible to change the function of incident detection so it can send an sms in case of incident without having the data  on the smartphone activated.

The functiion is vey usefull but if I do a long trail with the 4G connection activated on the phone, the battery is getting empy very quickly

  • yes it is connected, if you test yourself, you will see that the phone tell you it is trying to connect to the phone if bluetooth is off on the phone

So Garmin developpers, can you integrate this change request ? this will make this feature usefull.

  • I guess BT is always needed to be paired to the phone. But I tried this at home and with WiFi and 4g/3g off, no roaming or data enabled on the phone indeed no message is sent. The watch keeps on sending on the screen. As soon as I enable Wifi of data on the phone the warning is sent.....Not sure is 2g will work as well, in most areas here in Europe connection is pretty good.

  • Thanks this confirms my findings. My issue is not the availability of connection but battery life. 4g takes a lot

  • i understand and together with BT enabled it draws the battery even faster.....only 2G would be better. Bet i guess with 5G coming battery life is not that important for majority of people.....

  • If it is Android device and you really need a 2g then there is a good chance that you can "downgrade" your phone in Connections settings (Connections -> Cellular networks -> working mode drop down list). Settings path can be different depending on Android version.

  • @garmin developpers any feedback ?
