Version 9.0 impressions

I'd love to be able to give mine, but I'm not part of the intial rollout.  Rolling eyes

Anyone notice anything good, bad, indifferent?  My watch actually crashed this AM when I took it off to shower.  The light stayed stuck on, and turned off when I picked it up... but then it was completely frozen.   I had to hold the Light button for a good 10 seconds until it shut off.  It seems fine now, but I've never seen this behavior before; I have a 25k trail race on Saturday, and I won't be happy if it locks up during it!!  It's never locked up before so I'm hopeful it was a one and done.  There was also MASSIVE battery drain while it was locked up; it lost about 20% battery life in an hour.

Otherwise, thrilled with the watch; I'm hoping 9.0 does completely fix iOS notifications sometimes not appearing.  8.4 was a huge improvement, but still, I went from having to toggle my Bluetooth twice a day to once every other day.

  • I got the watch now since more than 1 year and iOS notifications don't get through reliably ever since.

I can definately say that Garmin does not have the know-how on how to get it done right.

  • Forerunner, do you have 9.0?

No, because sadly i donˋt need to install it to know that.

  • Haven't had time to notice anything yet....I'll keep an eye on the battery overnight....

Haven't seen any changes in the music functionality...works great anyway for me. . although I wish I could fast forward and rewind audio from the same screen page... rather than flicking back and forth between screens....maybe I'll make a request to the beta team in the future.

Can't do any activities due to injuries.... but I did try some of the routing functions.... and they seem still stable.

Switching between my chosen CIQ watchface.....then to apps and widgets is the same speed.

No noticeable processor speed difference within the watch....or the CIQ environment..

Bluetooth stable with Hauwei 2019 android.

  • What type of iOS notification problems do you have?

I have my F5+ since it came out and never had any problems pairing it with iPhones or receiving notifications: IPhone 8 - 11 on iOS 11 till 13

  • Mine updated yesterday afternoon, and so far the battery is a massive improvement; I only lost 1% overnight, which is amazing!  I did a quick 5k this AM, and the drain was as-expected.  So, that's promising.  It also has yet to miss a single iOS notification, which is also an improvement from 8.4 (and a vast improvement from 7.6 and earlier).  It may take Garmin a year, but they do finally get the bugs worked out of their firmware...   Laughing

You come to that conclusion after only 1 day of usage?! :-D

How do you have the notifications set up on your Iphone ? Do you have them on Previews , when unlocked, or Never?

  • I'm an eternal optimist!!  The buggiest Garmin I ever had was a Forerunner 235, and if they were able to fix that steaming pile, I have faith they'll eventually fix any of their watches!  Laughing

  • Previews.  I'm not 100% sure it will work otherwise.
