Fenix not syncing to schwinn mpower echelon 2

So I just got the Fenix 6X and tried to ANT+ sync today to the power meter and kept getting "Sensor Not Found Please pedal to activate"

It's an ANT+ sensor so I am wondering what I am doing wrong - any ideas?

  • At least for the one i have the distance does not transfer and is in the end a somewhat useless number. It is basically how far the average person would travel given the power output on a flat road. So power is the most valuable. If you wanted a more real distance you could try zwift it gives you a distance with real terrain. I think it is pretty cool but it is a subscription service.

  • from service bulletin on Core Health and Fitness CoreConnect: "Beginning with firmware version V2.0, both the Echelon2 and Echelon2G consoles WILL REQUIRE ALL 3rd party devices connecting to the consoles be FE-C profile capable.*

Neither the Fenix 6 or 5 series have ANT+FE-C connectivity.

The Echelon2G doesn't display speed, only an estimated distance based on power, from the Echelon2G manual " the algorithm for distance is based upon a 165 lb rider riding a 20 lb bike on a flat road with no head wind or tail wind. Typical values for wind resistance and rolling resistance are incorporated into the algorithm, so distance will not increase linearly with an increase in power. " I'd also like calculated speed, but that is not available. There isn't anywhere to mount a Garmin speed sensor on the AC Power, and it would be useless, anyway, as the speed would only be based on wheel RPMs, and no impact of resistance to account for gearing effect.

The Echelon2G will pair as a smart trainer with my Edge 830, presumably using ANT+FE-C, but as noted, no data is sent, and is pointless to use the Edge to get power and cadence from the 4iiii power meter when that works via ANT+ with the Fenix,

All that I can get from the bike is power and cadence from the 4iiii power meter, and HR from an HRM-Dual paired separately, also to the console so HR displays on the console. You can use wrist HR if desired, but need to set "broadcast wrist HR during activity" on the watch to transmit to the console

I confirmed with 4iiii that I could pair the power meter with the Fenix with standard ANT+ and with FirstBeat that HR, power and cadence would be sufficient for all of the FirstBeat fitness metrics, including cycling VO2max, FTP, etc  before purchasing the bike, and have been using that since 12-2019.

I'd consider upgrading consoles if they came out with a console that will pair with garmin watches and bike computers via standard ANT+ and they add a calculated speed to the current metrics

  • Any word from Garmin in a ?  I am having the same issue.  Thanks!

  • Basically garmin doesn't care. But it you have firmware version 1.7 on the mpower echelon 2 it will work but it will drop data quite frequently. Any newer version so far does not work

  • Finally have this figured out. I'm using Zwift on Samsung Galaxy Note 10+, Garmin HRM strap. The Zwift app pairs properly to the Echelon 2, which is amazing, the app must have its own ANT+ drivers. Phone must be close by the console. Then, the chest strap pairs to Zwift also. Finally, Zwift integrates to Garmin Connect, and voila the rides appear (must be longer than 2.6km per Zwift). All stats appear in Garmin Connect... Distance, power, cadence, the lot. Note... The Garmin watch has no role in this process.
