Anyone go from a Forerunner to a Fenix 5 plus? Any regrets?

Having recently destroyed my latest Forerunner (645), I'm looking for something more robust. Seriously. I destroy, on average, one Garmin Forerunner watch a year and have since 2016. Garmin has always hooked me up and replaced them, but I'm sick of the treadmill considering how long it takes me to set up their replacements how I like. I'm looking at the Titanium model with the orange band, hoping it will be lighter? I know it's not going be as light as my 645, but I just want something that will last for years without self destructing. With my 645, the pin in one of the bands actually tore a chunk out of the watch chassis; I tried to upload a picture, but the forum software isn't letting me. Thanks for any and all opinions!
  • Just yesterday went for a run with 15% battery showing and the watch died after 45 minutes 15% would have been more than enough for a couple of hours on the 935

I would give up with your 5+ and sent it back to Garmin for a replacement. 15% should be enough for 45 mins of GPS use.
  • 15% should be enough for 45 mins if the battery gauge is correct. But it’s a bit like a fuel gauge in a car. How accurate is it? When the fuel gauge in my car tells me I don’t have much I don’t try to eke out a ‘little’ bit more. I go and fill it up before I go anywhere. Gauges are indications of content, not necessarily accurate.
  • @philpshambrook agreed - don't expect 100% accuracy but I do expect some consistency, With my car the guage is not accurate but I do know to a fairly precise degree how far I can go once uit hits the final red segment. With the 5+ I had run for about an hour and a half a couple of weeks ago on a 16% battery so made the assumption that I would be OK for 45 mins. The battery guage on the 5+ seems much more inconsistent than on the 935 or the 920 that I had previously. Following my run above I recharged the watch to 100% and since then I have had a 45 min indoor swim and a 40 min run - the watch is now on 77% about 40 hours after recharging.
  • But as we know, from a number off posts in this thread, the battery gauge does not appear to be reliable or consistent - at least that appears to be the case of you read the plethora of posts on the battery thread. What don't know is whether the battery life problem is real or a factor of the battery indication. There certainly appears to be reasonable amount of comments that suggest it's as much a function of the gauge as anything else. Who knows? Perhaps Garmin?

In the presence of the very apparent inconsistency, the only thing to do is to make sure it's kept charged.

The only thing we can say for certain is that it's reliably inconsistent.
